#19 Saint Louis vs. Davidson Bet
One of the most exciting teams in all of college basketball is the No. 19 Saint Louis Billikens, who are currently sitting at 21-1. Their lone loss was a one point defeat to Stanford on a neutral site back on November 28. Since then, they have been on a tear, rolling through nearly everyone in their path. Tonight, they head to Davidson to take on a top 105 Wildcats team. Is this another spot for St. Louis to steamroll the competition, or will Davidson keep it close or even shock the nation?
I will continue to ride with the Billikens until they prove me wrong. Have there been a few close calls over the last few weeks? Sure. It is a very long season, and teams are always due for a poor performance. However, this group continues to show resilience. They are coming off a 31 point win over Dayton on Friday. Either a massive letdown is coming, or this team is just starting to turn on the burners.
Trust the Numbers
Through five true road games this season, Saint Louis ranks 47th in offensive efficiency and second in defensive efficiency. On top of that, they rank second in eFG% offense and first in eFG% defense. Overall, this team is elite at attacking the glass, shooting from deep, and defending both the interior and the perimeter. This is a juggernaut mid-major squad.
The Wildcats sit just outside the top 100, but the Billikens are 5-1 against top 100 opponents. St. Louis ranks third in adjusted defensive efficiency, second in eFG% defense, and first in two-point percentage defense.
Saint Louis does have some flaws. They struggle to get to the line and convert free throws on the road, and they also foul at a high rate. A major key tonight will be forcing Davidson to play faster than they prefer. The Wildcats rank 339th in pace this season, while the Billikens rank 24th nationally. Davidson will do everything possible to turn this game into a turtle race. If Saint Louis can push the tempo beyond what the Wildcats are comfortable with, this game should tilt heavily in their favor.
Through seven games against top 100 teams, Davidson is 2-5 straight up. They do a solid job shooting from deep and forcing turnovers. However, they rank 287th in free throw rate offense, 346th in free throw percentage, and 273rd in defensive rebounding.
With Saint Louis not looking ahead to anything tougher than what is in front of them tonight, I have to back this dominant group. If they can speed things up and continue to play the lock down defense they have shown all season, they should have no trouble taking care of business on the road.
Best Bet: Saint Louis -9 (-107) on Lucky Rebel
