#10 Vanderbilt vs. Texas Bet
One of the best games on the slate features the Texas Longhorns hosting No. 10 Vanderbilt. The hometown Longhorns are coming off a massive win in their most recent matchup, while the Commodores remain a perfect 16-0. It will be interesting to see if Texas can keep that momentum rolling with a brutal stretch ahead, or if Vanderbilt can continue its perfect start. I have thoughts…
Coming off the win of the season, the Longhorns look to stay hot after taking down Alabama 92 to 88 as 11.5-point road underdogs. Now they welcome another SEC powerhouse, a Vanderbilt team that beat Alabama just two games ago. Does Texas have another upset in them? I doubt it, which is why I am backing Vanderbilt minus five this evening.
Tough Road Ahead
Texas is in the middle of a gauntlet that started with Tennessee, a game they lost 85 to 71. That was followed by the win over Alabama, then a home date with Texas A&M on Saturday, a trip to Kentucky next Wednesday, a home game against Georgia on the 24th, and a road game at Auburn on the 28th to close out this seven game stretch. Vanderbilt does host Florida on Saturday, but I am not worried about a look ahead spot with Texas coming off what felt like a Super Bowl type victory.
Vanderbilt has been a perfect 9-0 against top 100 teams this season, with wins over Alabama, Saint Marys, and SMU standing out the most. On the other side, Texas is coming off just its second top 100 win of the year. The first came against NC State during Feast Week, and that result does not move the needle for me.
The road favorite has posted the third best offense in the country against top 50 teams this season. Vanderbilt ranks top five in eFG% offense, turnover percentage, two point percentage, and block percentage. Defensively, the Commodores remain inside the top 25 by forcing turnovers, defending the perimeter, and blocking shots at a high rate.
Texas has struggled mightily on the defensive end against top 100 competition. In those six games, the Longhorns rank 286th in free throw rate allowed, 312th in three point defense, and 240th in turnover rate. Offensively they have been fine, but Vanderbilt is going to force the tempo. The Commodores rank 20th in pace, and if Texas does not defend, they are going to get scored to death.
Coming off a win of this magnitude, I am fading Texas in its next game. Give me the Commodores to cover the five points and stay undefeated.
Best Bet: Vanderbilt -5 (-106) on Lucky Rebel
