Warriors vs Spurs Betting & Picks (Jan. 13): Stephen Curry & Co. Shine at the Alamodome

Devon Platana

Friday, Jan. 13’s NBA schedule features a Western Conference showdown between the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs at the famous Alamodome in San Antonio, TX. Both teams are currently riding three-game losing streaks and something has to give tonight, making it interesting to see who’ll be victorious in the latest Warriors vs Spurs matchup.

As mentioned before, the Warriors have been stuck in a rut lately. They picked their third straight defeat in the form of a 125-113 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday, trailing by as many as 27 points in the contest. Considering how Golden State was losing 59-45 at halftime, a stronger start is needed tonight.

Meanwhile, the Spurs lost 135-129 to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday for their third loss in a row. It was the second of back-to-back road losses to the Grizzlies, so it’ll be intriguing to see if playing at the Alamodome gives the Spurs a boost or not.

There’s a lot to take in before Friday’s Warriors vs Spurs game. Fortunately, Betting News has gathered the game’s odds while also having a prediction, the best bets and a player prop for tonight’s contest.

Warriors vs Spurs Prediction and Picks

Warriors vs Spurs Prediction: Warriors 129, Spurs 118

Warriors vs Spurs Picks: Warriors -8.5 (Best Value: -114 at FanDuel) & Over 244 Points Points (Best Value: -110 at FanDuel)

Though neither team has been playing well lately, I do like the Warriors’ chances of winning just a bit more. After all, Golden State hardly broke a sweat against San Antonio when the two teams met back in November, ending in a 132-95 blowout win for the Warriors.

The Warriors have now won five of their last eight games against the Spurs and are 3-0 in their last three trips to San Antonio. While those games took place at the AT&T Center, it still goes to show that Golden State tends to step up when visiting the Lone Star State.

Something else that helps the Warriors is that Stephen Curry is back in the lineup. He had 24 points in his return against the Suns and while his .364/.333/.750 shooting splits were far from the best of his career, he’ll only get better as time goes on.

In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Curry has a big performance in San Antonio. He loves the spotlight and always steps up on basketball’s biggest stages. Playing an NBA game at the Alamodome is a big deal, so I have faith that he’ll rise to the occasion. It also helps that Curry is averaging 26.3 points while shooting 39.4% from three-point range in his last six games against the Spurs.

I also have a hard time trusting the Spurs due to their putrid defense. San Antonio surrenders 121.0 PPG on 50.5% shooting, which happens to be the most points given up on the highest shooting percentage allowed. Gregg Popovich’s team is also allowing 12.7 threes per game (T-No. 20) on 39.8% accuracy (No. 30), boding well for the Warriors, who hit 37.2% of their shots from beyond the arc (No. 6).

Playing in San Antonio also doesn’t help the Spurs, who own a minus-6.3 home scoring margin — second-worst in the NBA. Although the Warriors are a minus-10.1 on the road (second-worst), it’s clear that the Spurs are that much worse.

At the end of the day, I expect the Warriors to put on a show in front of the rowdy Alamodome crowd. They already beat the Spurs by nearly 40 points before, so covering the 8.5-point spread shouldn’t be an issue. It also helps that Golden State is 5-1 ATS in its last six Western Conference matchups.

I’m also expecting the total to go over 244 points. The Warriors and Spurs have two of the worst defences in the league, so I don’t see many stops happening. Besides, with nearly 70,000 people in attendance and the energy that amount of people brings to the table, a shootout only seems fitting.

Best Warriors vs Spurs Prop

Stephen Curry — Over 4.5 Threes (+100)

Stephen Curry might not have had the best performance against the Suns, but he still sunk five three-pointers against them. The outing marked the 15th time this season that the iconic sharpshooter has hit at least five threes, meaning he’s accomplished the task in 55.6% of his games thus far.

While finishing that many threes is tough for some, I’m confident that Curry can do it again tonight. As mentioned earlier, the Spurs’ three-point defense is horrendous and they’re also tied for allowing the fourth-most threes to point guards this season.

Considering how Curry has also gone over 4.5 threes in three of his last six games against the Spurs, fans and bettors alike should be ready for a show at the Alamodome.
