It has all come down to the last day in the regular season for 5 teams in the Western conference, and it just so happens that the Wolves and Pelicans go head to head both looking to lock in their seeding in the Western conference.
Here is a detailed description of the playoff scenarios for the 5-9 seed in the West to get a better understanding what is on the line today.
Updated Western Conference Playoff and Play-In scenarios through today's games.
This is a lot to take in so let's start with the simple part of this equation.
The loser of this game in Minnesota today is the 9 seed in the West.
Where things get tricky is how it will all shake out for the winner.
If Minnesota wins, they would be locked in to either the 7 or 8 seed based on the results of the other games today. The Wolves are locked into a play-in game no matter what, but the 7 or 8 seed is much more enticing than the 9 seed.
The 7 seed plays the 8 seed in the first play-in game and the winner of that game has an automatic birth in the playoffs.
The 9 seed has to play the 10 seed, and the winner of that game has to play the loser of the 7/8 seed game to be the 8th and final seed in the conference.
Makes sense? I know, it is a lot.
Here is a picture of all that info to give you a visual so it is a bit easier to digest.
The postseason bracket heading into the final day of the NBA regular season…
All 30 teams. All 15 games. All on the NBA App. TOMORROW🍿
The Pelicans have bit more on the line today, as they can avoid the play in all together with a win and a couple other results to go their way.
With the 5 and 6 seed in their sights, albeit a distant sight, and a 7 or 8 seed in the Timberwolves sights, this game will be a dramatic from the opening tip.
I really don't have a read on a side in this one, as it truly could go either way. So I am going to ride with the Pelicans and the points.
The Pelicans have won 4 of their last 5 games and covered in those 4 as well. This game could come down to the final basket and I will take the points on the visitors to keep it within a bucket.
Can Anthony Edwards lift the Wolves to the 7th seed?
I love Ant in this matchup.
Edwards has been fantastic the last couple weeks and loves playing the Pelicans.
Ant has eclipsed 26 points in 4 of his last 5 games versus New Orleans, and both games this season. Their last game in January he dropped a cool 37 on the Pels.
He is also cruising right now, scoring 30+ in 3 of his last 5 games.
He also loves that home cooking, scoring 26+ in 7 of his last 8 games in Target Center.
Given the ramifications and his recent success, give me Ant to have a big game once again.
Bonus: Edwards 30+ points (+190)
