NBA Prop Bets for Monday, January 12

Noah Clowney Under 2.5 3-Pointers (-136)
Noah Clowney and the Brooklyn Nets head to Dallas to face the Mavericks on Monday night. I'm always looking to target games involving Dallas, given that they boast the league's best three-point defense – holding opponents to a league-low 33% from beyond the arc. They also do an excellent job limiting volume, ranking third in opponent three-point shot rate at 35%.
Clowney's shooting production has dipped recently. On the season, he's averaging 2.2 made threes on nearly seven attempts per game, but in January, through a six-game sample, that number has fallen to just 1.8 made threes despite an increase to 7.5 attempts per contest. He's been sloppy from deep, and this is not the matchup where those issues get cleaned up against the league's top perimeter defense.

Jusuf Nurkic Under 12.5 Points (-130)
More often than not, the bets I dish out in this article go against the grain – but this one does so more than most. Utah Jazz big man Jusuf Nurkic has been playing some outstanding basketball of late.
Over his last six games, he's averaging 18.5 points per contest and has cleared 12.5 points in every outing. So why are we staring at such a low points prop for him tonight?
The answer is simple: matchup. He's running into a Cavaliers defense that ranks second in opponent field-goal percentage at the rim (62%), which is where 43% of his shots are coming from. On top of that, Cleveland ranks ninth in opponent field-goal percentage from the short mid-range (42.9%), an area that accounts for another 39% of Nurkic's attempts.
This is the quintessential spot to sell high on Nurkic, and that's exactly what I'll be doing.
Clippers vs Hornets Over 223 (-112)
Whenever you get a chance to bet on a 14-win team and a 15-win team to perform efficiently, you can't pass that up – right?
Well, of course you can. But I'm choosing not to tonight.
I'm expecting this matchup between two of the league's bottom-tier teams to turn into a higher-scoring affair. As bad as both squads are, they're still more than capable of putting points on the board, especially when facing poor defenses.
The Clippers offense ranks eighth in effective field-goal percentage and 12th in points per 100 possessions, and now they'll be matched up against a Hornets defense that sits 25th in defensive eFG% and 20th in points per possession allowed. On the other side, Charlotte brings in an offense that ranks 15th in eFG% and 11th in points per possession, facing a Clippers defense that's 21st in eFG% and 26th in points per possession allowed.
Both teams play at a below-average pace, but there should be enough quality looks on both ends to push this total over a relatively modest number.
Best Bets:
- Noah Clowney Under 2.5 3-Pointers (-136 at Lucky Rebel)
- Jusuf Nurkic Under 12.5 Points (-130, at Lucky Rebel)
- Clippers vs Hornets Over 223 (-112, at Lucky Rebel)
