All-Star Saturday kicks off with my favorite event, the NBA's 3-Point Contest. We've got eight guys to choose from and plenty to talk about; let's jump straight into it.

Three Point Contest | Breakdown & Rules

This year's contest consists of eight shooters, two rounds and five main shooting spots. Each participant will have 70 seconds to get through all five racks of balls. Four of the five racks contains four regular NBA balls, each worth one point; and one 'money-ball' worth two points.
The fifth rack will be an 'all money-ball' rack, placed at the shooter's discretion; with each ball being worth two points. Two pedestals will placed equal distance from the top of the key, both six feet behind the 3-point line with two 'special money-balls'. Both of these balls will be worth three points.
Each shooter has a total of 27 balls to shoot in a 70 second time frame and only the top three highest scores from Round 1 will move on to the Championship Round.
Notable Winners
Tyler Herro won last year's 3-point competition and became the first Heat player to win it since James Jones in 2011. Damian Lillard hasn't played a single game of basketball this year but he's back and looking to become just the third 3-time winner in contest history. Lillard won back to back in 2023 and 2024; even doing it with two different teams.
Stephen Curry's been crowned 3-point King just twice at All-Star Weekend, with both Larry Bird and Craig Hodges tied for most 3-point contest wins in NBA history (3).
Devin Booker's also got history here in the 3-point competition. This year will mark the 5th time he's been a participant, coming home with one trophy back in 2019.

Shooters Shoot
This year's field of shooters consists of four first timers and four guys with history in the competition. Tyrese Maxey, Jamal Murray, Bobby Portis, and the rookie Kon Knueppel are all participating for the first time this weekend. Oddsmakers are heavily leaning towards the rook, listing him as the favorite at (+275).
Dame and Booker are tied for most appearances (5) among this year's field, Dame winning two and Booker just the one. This will be Donovan Mitchell's third appearance in the 3-point competition, hoping to break through the first round for the first time this year.
Lastly, Norman Powell. This is his second time participating, last year being his first.

Three Point Contest | Best Bet: Devin Booker (+750)

I'm going with experience. Booker's fifth appearance in the competition and he's only in his 11th season in the NBA. He's a career 35% 3-point shooter and he's been kind of bad this year from beyond the arc. Booker's shooting just 31% from the perimeter this year and that would bother me if this was an actual NBA game.
Booker's one of the best spot up shooters in the NBA and his familiarity with this competition is why I'm leaning with the former Wildcat. Booker recorded a winning score of 28 points back in 2019 and that was prior to all the changes now made to the contest.
If I'm betting the 3-point competition, I'm looking for value. I look at Book at (+750), he's been in this competition four different times and he's reached the final round three different times. Book also finished as the runner up the last time he was in the 3-point contest, this being back in 2020.
