Analysis & Breakdown

Phoenix Suns

Talking Stick or Talking Sh…?

Coming into this year, most people thought the Suns would be a lottery team. Most people would be wrong. The Suns have won 43 games this year, sit 7th in the Western Conference and on the edge of making the postseason once again. They've managed to do this with a rookie Head Coach and brand new big three.

Speaking of the Suns' big three, they've missed a ton of time this year and have played just eight total games together. The trio's played just 70 total minutes on the floor this year and it's why the Suns are hard to judge.

Phoenix hangs their hat on defense and it's why they're able to stay competitive in most games. The Suns rank 6th in points allowed, 2nd in 3s allowed and 1st in opponent 3-point percentage. They rank 2nd in opponent turnover rate and 4th in points off turnovers.

Phoenix has been terrible on their own defensive glass, ranking 27th in opponent offensive rebound rate and 21st in second chance points allowed. The Suns have been equally as good on the offensive glass, ranking 7th in offensive rebound rate and 7th in second chance points.

Ready for Lift Off?

The Rockets have won 8 of their last 10 games. Problem is six of those wins came against opponents with losing records and the Suns don't have a losing record. Houston's lead by a 37-year old Kevin Durant and he couldn't look better.

Durant's played the second most minutes in the NBA this year and he's played in 75 of the team's 78 games so far. Without Durant on the floor, this offense dries up. The team's offensive rating drops five points with him off the floor and they averagedjust 112.0 points per game in the three games he missed.

Reed Sheppard, Amen Thompson and even Alperen Sengun have been great at different points this year; but all have lacked consistency. The Rockets lead the league in 4th quarter turnovers and it's why they continue to have issues closing teams out.

Tuesday Night's Best Bets

Jalen Green

Jaylen Green o7.5 A/R (+100) | Lucky Rebel

For the first time since being traded in the off-season, Jalen Green will face the team that drafted him. This is about as chalky as it gets, but Green's been great for the Suns this year.

After missing more than half the year, Green's returned and averaging 26.4 minutes, 18.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. He spent a majority of the year on a minutes restriction, but he's now averaging 29.2 minutes per game in his last 10 games. He's averaging 4.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game in these 10 games.

Green's played 15 games this year where he sees more than 25 minutes. He's cleared this line in 10 of the 15 games; averaging 4.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. In his first game against his former team, I'm just expecting him to get a little more active.

kevin durant

Kevin Durant o10.5 A/R (+105) | Lucky Rebel

Same narrative, opposite team. This will be the third time Durant plays his former squad this year and he's cleared this line in both games. Durant played 32+ minutes in both games and it's a line he's cleared in seven of his last eight games.
