Analysis & Breakdown

Motor City Monsters
The Pistons sit atop the Eastern Conference and with just 12 games left, they'll be doing everything they can to hold onto that No.1 seed. Tonight the Lakers are in town and they'll be without their leader, Cade Cunningham for this game.
Cade suffered a left lung pneumothorax against the Wizards last week and although he'll be back for the postseason, it remains to be seen if he'll play any more regular season games. In the three games without him, the Pistons have recorded three wins; but it's come against three bad teams.
Tonight's matchup with the Lakers will be the toughest test yet, but they've got a long list of good teams on the schedule right after this. Without Cade on the court this year, the Pistons offensive rating drops 8.8 points to 112.6.
Meaning the team is scoring 112.6 points per 100 possessions without Cade, compared to 121.3 points per 100 possessions with him on the court. Detroit's also 7-2 without Cade this year, but eight of the nine games came against teams with losing records.
Detroit's hung their hat on defense this year and with Cade off the floor the defense does get better. The team's defensive rating drops to 106.7 with Cade off the floor and in their last three games it's dropped to 103.3. The three most recent opponents the Pistons faced were the Warriors and Wizards (twice) so I don't give it a ton of weight.
Poke the Bear
The Lakers have now won nine games in a row, Luka's averaging 40.0 points per game in these nine games and they've beaten some quality teams. Los Angeles has wins over the Knicks, Timberwolves, Nuggets, Houston (twice), Heat and Magic during this nine game win streak and tonight they look to keep it going in Detroit.
This is game five of a six-game road trip for the Lakers and it feels like every night someone 'pokes the bear'. Luka's fire seems to ignite every single night as soon as someone opens their mouth. Whether it's someone on the floor, someone sitting court side or someone on the opposing bench.
In these four road games, Luka is averaging 42.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game. He's taking an average of 28 shot attempts per game but he's also shooting 50% from the field and 39% from beyond the arc. Luka's been incredibly efficient while shooting such a high volume and it's honestly something we've never seen.
The Lakers have the third best offensive rating during this 9-game win streak and rank top 10 in defensive rating. All I ask is that someone please, once again, poke the bear tonight.
Wednesday Night's Best Bets

Luka Dončić o32.5 Points (-105) | Lucky Rebel
I'm getting chalky and I'm taking the NBA's leading scorer to go over his point line tonight. The Lakers are in line for their 10th win a row and it would be the first time Los Angeles has accomplished this feat in the 'Luka Era'.
The last time the Lakers won 10-games in a row was November of 2019 and both Lebron James and Anthony Davis were leading the Lakers .
That also happened to be the same year the Lakers won their most recent NBA Championship and that win streak came to an end right after that 10th win. Who was it that ended the win streak? Luka Dončić in his sophomore year. He had a game high 27 points and finished one rebound shy of a triple double.
None of those stats have anything to do with tonight's game, but life's just funny. The Pistons defense has been top two, if not the best in the NBA this year. They beat you up and make you earn every single point. That being said, they also give up a ton of free throws.
The Pistons rank 30th in opponent free throw rate and Luka leads the league in free throw attempts. He's done a great job of creating contact and putting defenders in bad positions. Tonight with 10 wins on the line and with how good Luka's been, I'm riding with the hot hand.

Tobias Harris o8.5 A/R (-105) | Lucky Rebel
With Cade out of the lineup, Tobias Harris has been doing a lot more distributing. Harris has cleared this line in all four games he's played this year without Cade and the one game where Cade left very early due to injury.
Going back to last season, Harris has cleared this line in 7 of his last 10 games without Cade in the lineup and tonight against the Lakers should provide plenty of opporunity. Los Angeles ranks 22nd in assists allowed and Harris is averaging 8.3 potential assists per game in the five games without Cunningham.
The Lakers also rank 20th in points allowed in the paint so it should provide plenty of assist opportunities to their big man Jalen Duren inside.
