Mavericks vs Timberwolves Game 5 Predictions & NBA Picks Today (5/30)

The Timberwolves still have a long road ahead of them, but at least they showed some signs of life with their Game 4 victory. Having said that, only four teams in NBA history have forced a Game 7 after trailing by three games with the most recent example happening between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat in last year's Eastern Conference Finals.

If the Timberwolves are going to win again, they must contain Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving for the second straight outing. Minnesota successfully held Irving to 16 points on .333/.167/1.000 splits on Tuesday and while Doncic still scored 28 points, he only shot 33.3% from the floor and 36.4% from deep.

At the same time, the T-wolves need Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns to show up again. The dynamic duo struggled to get things going in the first three games, but their combined 54 points in Game 4 made for an encouraging effort.

Another thing that Minnesota can do is continue its three-point success. The Timberwolves impressively went 11-for-24 (45.8%) from deep in the last outing, whereas the Mavericks only succeeded on 35.0% of their three-point attempts.

Will Kyrie Irving have a bounce-back performance after underwhelming in Game 4?

But even with tonight's tilt happening at Target Center, the Timberwolves might not have much of a home-court advantage. After all, they're already 0-2 at home in this series and have now dropped four of their last five home outings.

There's also the fact that the Timberwolves are only 1-4 SU in their last five games as the favorite. Conversely, the Mavericks own the ninth-best success rate as road underdogs this season.

It's also worth noting that the Mavericks are a solid 6-1 ATS in their last seven road outings, as well as 4-1 ATS on their five previous trips to Target Center. That doesn't paint the best outlook for the Timberwolves, who have covered the spread only three times during their last nine games.

The Timberwolves have struggled to consistently cover the spread lately. 

While the Mavericks succeeded on the road to begin the series, I'm taking the Timberwolves to win. Minnesota finally looked like its normal self in Game 4 and I expect that to continue into tonight's affair. It's going to be another close game, but I have a tough time imagining the T-wolves failing to win at least one home game in this series.

At the same time, I'm taking Dallas to cover the spread. It's well-documented that the Timberwolves' recent ATS record isn't great and they were already outscored by an average of two points in Games 1 and 2. Even though I'm predicting that the home team will win, the Mavericks are good enough to keep things closer than projected.

Best Mavericks vs Timberwolves NBA Game 5 Prop Bet (5/30)

Tonight, I'm taking the Under on Rudy Gobert's 10.5-rebound total (+106) for tonight's best Mavericks vs. Timberwolves Game 5 player prop.

Gobert is one of the NBA's best rebounders, but his recent performances have left something to be desired. The four-time Defensive Player of the Year is only averaging 8.4 rebounds in his last five games and finished each of those outings with the Under on this prop. That's without mentioning how he's failed to reach his rebound projection in each of his last three home games against the Mavs.

The Mavericks have excelled at limiting the Timberwolves' rebounding opportunities thus far, so keep expectations low for Gobert tonight.
