An action-packed Monday is ahead in the NBA, with 11 games taking place on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. First up on today’s slate, the Houston Rockets will take on the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center (1:00 pm ET, NBA TV).
This is the penultimate game of a six-game road swing for the Rockets (19-19, 4-13 away), and they will be trying to avoid a fourth loss in five games.
The 76ers (24-13, 14-6 home) will be after a second straight win following a 112-93 win over the Sacramento Kings on Friday. The home win over the Kings broke a three-game losing streak for the Sixers, and it improved them to 5-1 this season against Western Conference opposition.
Philly’s hopes of taking that record to 6-1 appear to be receiving a major boost with the likely return of reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid.
Embiid, who leads the league in scoring at 34.6 PPG and is averaging 11.8 RPG and 6.0 APG, has missed three straight games due to left knee issues. But he has been upgraded to questionable for today’s game against the Rockets, which is usually a positive sign. As a result, the Sixers are firmly favored to pick up their 15th home win of the season.

Houston Rockets vs Philadelphia 76ers Prediction and Picks
Rockets vs 76ers Betting Analysis and Prediction
Prediction: Philadelphia 76ers to win and cover the spread
The Rockets are 21-16-1 ATS thus far this season, but they are just 4-13 ATS on the road and 9-17 SU and 13-13 ATS as an underdog.
The latter marks include a 131-127 loss to the Sixers in Houston on December 29. Philadelphia was favored by a slight margin despite Embiid being out with an ankle sprain, and they won and covered thanks to Tyrese Maxey’s monster night (42 points, four rebounds, four assists) and a productive all-around performance by Tobias Harris (22 points, four rebounds, seven assists, four steals, three blocks).
That was one of 24 ATS covers thus far this season for the 76ers, who are 24-13 ATS this season, including 14-6 ATS at the Wells Fargo Center.
With Embiid set to return to action, you have to like the Sixers’ chances to improve on those records.
When he last sat out for multiple games, he posted a triple-double (31 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists) in a home win over the Chicago Bulls in his first game back on the court following a four-game absence.

Joel Embiid over 50.5 points + rebounds + assists (-115 at BetOnline & Bovada)
At home, Embiid has averaged 34.0 PPG, 11.2 RPG, and 5.8 APG in 18 games.
This may be heaping a lot of expectations on Embiid but given what he did the last time he returned from an injury, you have to really like the odds here.
Jalen Green over 2.5 made threes (+139 at BetOnline)
This is the third time this season that Green has gone five games without making at least three outside shots in a game.
In the first instance, he broke the run after five games by going 3 of 13 from three against the Memphis Grizzlies on November 22. In the second instance, he broke the five-game run by making 3 of 7 from outside at Memphis on December 15.
Tyrese Maxey over 3.5 made threes (-114 at BetOnline)
Maxey was 6 of 17 from the field against the Kings, but he did make 3 of 6 from three. Today, he’ll be aiming for more accuracy than he had in the previous matchup with the Rockets. He was 13 of 26 from the field, but he made only 2 of 9 from three.
Each of the previous two instances in which he shot below 40% from the field, he made four or more threes in the following game.
After making 8 of 22 FG (36.4%) at Chicago on December 30, he was 4 of 7 from three in a rematch on January 2. Then, after going 9 of 24 (37.5%) in the loss to the Jazz, he was 4 of 11 from three in Wednesday’s OT loss to the Hawks.
