The New York Knicks have had a fantastic start to the new year, but can they keep it going as they host the Milwaukee Bucks?
Tonight’s matchup between the Bucks (25-14, 9-9 away, 3rd in the Eastern Conference) and Knicks (22-18, 10-10 home, 7th in the Eastern Conference) is set for a 7:30 pm tip at Madison Square Garden.
The Knicks wrapped up 2022 with a win over the Houston Rockets on New Year’s Eve, and they have started 2023 with wins over the Phoenix Suns, San Antonio Spurs, and Toronto Raptors.
Tonight, they will look to wrap up their season series with Milwaukee with a win after losing the first two head-to-head matchups.
Milwaukee will be looking to bounce back from a 29-point home loss to Charlotte on Friday, which saw them allow an NBA record-tying 51 first-quarter points and Giannis Antetokounmpo have his lowest-scoring game of the season.
Will Milwaukee rebound from that ugly loss with a win at MSG? Read on for our Bucks vs Knicks prediction and picks.

Bucks Should Bounce Back in a Big Way in the Big Apple
Other than their four-game losing streak last month, Milwaukee has done a great job in not stringing losses together.
For the season, the Bucks are 9-4 straight up and 8-5 against the spread following a loss. Three of those spread and straight-up losses came during their losing skid last month, in which they dropped consecutive road games against the Cavaliers, Nets, Celtics, and Bulls.
The Bucks are only 2-7-1 ATS in their last ten road games and have won only twice in their last eight road games, but they do enter tonight’s game after a 104-101 overtime win at Toronto this past Wednesday in their most recent road game.
They are also 2-0 against the Knicks this season, having won 119-108 at Fiserv Forum on October 28 and 109-103 at MSG on November 30.
Giannis had a huge game in both previous matchups, recording 30 points, 14 rebounds, and nine assists in the win in Milwaukee and 37 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists in the win in New York.
Milwaukee Bucks vs New York Knicks Prediction and Picks
Bucks vs Knicks Prediction: Bucks to win
Bucks vs Knicks Picks: Bucks ML (Best Value: BetOnline)
Thus far this season, the Knicks are 5-11 SU and 7-8-1 ATS against teams that are currently at .500 or better. At home, they are 2-6 SU and 2-5-1 ATS against such teams, which doesn’t bode well for this matchup.
By comparison, the Bucks are 4-5 SU and 2-5-2 on the road and 11-5 SU and 8-6-2 ATS overall against teams that are currently .500 or better, with three of those SU and ATS losses coming in that four-game losing streak last month.
I like how the Knicks are playing right now, but they will be facing the Bucks at a bad time. I don’t think Milwaukee will be in any mood for a repeat of Friday’s sorry showing against the Hornets.
Milwaukee Bucks vs New York Knicks Player Props
- Giannis Antetokounmpo over 31.5 points (Bovada Sportsbook)
- Giannis Antetokounmpo over 48.5 points + rebounds + assists (Bovada Sportsbook)
Friday’s game was just the fifth time this season that Giannis, who is third in the league in scoring (32.0 PPG), scored fewer than 25 points.
Here are his numbers in the following game in the first four instances:
- scored 21 points at Philadelphia on 10/20: 44 points vs Houston on 10/22
- scored 16 points vs Cleveland on 11/16: 25 at Philadelphia on 11/18
- scored 16 at Houston on 12/11: 30 vs Golden State on 12/13
- scored 19 at Memphis on 12/15: 42 at New Orleans on 12/19
Also, as mentioned above, Giannis put up big numbers in the first two games against the Knicks this season, tallying 53 points + rebounds + assists in the first game and 57 points + rebounds + assists in the second game.
