UFC 317 is set to kick off tonight after an eventful weigh in and media week. The ceremonial press conference brought all the expected trash talk and more.
There was a little trouble on the scales, as the card lost an early preliminary fight. Christopher Ewert came in 10 pounds over weight while Jackson Mcvey made weight forcing the cancellation.
Both Main & Co – Main event fighters did their jobs to come in at championship weight. Fighters have faced off for the final time and the anticipation for UFC 17 is at its peak!

UFC 317 Main Event: Ilia Topuria vs Charles Oliveira Analysis, Best Bet, & Prediction

The Final Face Off Between Lightweight Contenders
The stage has been set for the Lightweight championship bout at UFC 317. Each contender has made the championship limit of 155 pounds with no issue.
Charles Oliveira is a star and fan favorite within the UFC. With such an exciting fight style, it is hard for fans not to get excited every time he steps into the cage.
In a legendary career he has 34 fights under the UFC banner in 11 years. Fighting at the top level for such a long time has allowed him to grow into the fighter he has become today.
The start to his career was rocky which adds to the greatness of his story. Going 5-5 in his first 10 fights with 4 losses by finish, his future was up in the air.
In 2017 he turned a corner in his career going on an insane run of 10 straight wins over legendary fighters. During this run, Oliveira captured the lightweight championship and defended it twice.
Eventually running into the unstoppable force that is Islam Makhachev. In the fight he was out struck and dominated on the ground eventually being finished.
Being one of the most credentialed grapplers in light weight history Oliveira has amassed 16 submission victories in his career. He has proven how equally dangerous his hands, walking his opponents down with big hooks and a stiff jab.
Oliveira is a killed or be killed fighter and his biggest downfall has always been his durability. In his 10 professional losses he has been finished 8 times, a testament to his fighting style.
As Oliveira gets older, it is hard to imagine the durability concerns will get any better. In a match up with such a precision striker, it is hard to trust Oliveira will inflict more damage then he receives.
Will Topuria Capture His 2nd Title?

Former Featherweight Champion Ilia Topuria
Ilia Topuria is quickly becoming one of the biggest names in the sport if MMA. The Georgian fighter moved to Spain young and has garnered a massive fan base in Europe.
In 2024 he became the first Spanish champion in UFC history. In back to back fights he captured the belt by knocking out featherweight GOAT Volkanovski, then defended the belt by knocking out another Featherweight GOAT in Holloway.
The personality of Topuria tells half the story, being a very cocky fighter & willing to verbally spar with opponents. It is important to note that whatever Topuria has said he is going to do thus far, he has backed it up 100%.
Primarily a striker, Topuria is a very patient pocket boxer with precision counter striking. Often aggressive in striking exchanges he often walks his opponent down to find an opening for his big right hand.
There is true versatility to his game though, showing a phenomenal grappling prowess in his time with the UFC. Thriving in wrestling exchanges, he has been able to take opponents down at will while picking up 8 submission wins.
145 lbs proved to be a tough weight cut for him and feeling as if he has done enough in the division he is moving up to claim a 2nd title. There have been few 2 division champions in UFC history & there is no doubt Topuria is skilled enough to join that list.
I believe this is a tailor made match up for him with Oliveira's aggressive, walk forward, kill or be killed style. With Oliveira being so aggressive and willing to strike, I believe Topuria will find a home for his right hook and claim his 2nd title under the UFC Banner.

UFC 317 Co – Main Event: Alexandre Pantoja (C) vs Kai Kara – France Best Bet, Analysis & Prediction

Final Face Off Before The Flyweight Championship Bout Tonight
Kai Kara – France looks to cash in on his second UFC title shot vs dominant champion Alexandre Pantoja. Unable to secure the victory in his first attempt against Brandon Moreno, his next opportunity is no easier then the first.
He is a talented striker fighting out of City Kickboxing in New Zealand. In his career he has shown rare power for the Flyweight division gaining 3 knockout victories under the UFC banner.
Signature to the City Kickboxing style, Kara – France is great at distance control and managing the range of his opponents. This skill suits his game very well as he is naturally on the smaller side of the division and being outsized in most fights.
The size has not yet to be a factor in his career, showing great takedown defense despite his size. If fighters are unable to take him down, they are in for a long night.
A great point fighter as well, Kara – France throws with volume and is often able to gain the advantage in significant strikes over his opponents. The volume in which he throws his strikes, is when his power is able to shine most.
In his last fight he was able to knock out top contender Steve Erceg. The win coming in such exciting fashion, he was able to secure a title shot in his very next fight despite being 1-2 in his last 3 fights.
Kara – France has proven that he belongs in the top of the division, but I believe he has a very tough match up in front of him.
Will Pantoja Continue His Dominant Title Reign?

Flyweight Champion Alexandre Pantoja
Alexandre Pantoja has earned his fame in his UFC tenure. With 16 fights under the UFC banner , his exciting walk forward style has captivated MMA fans across the world.
There has not been an easy path for Pantoja though, beating many top contenders on his way to the title. Pantoja has accumulated a very impressive resume over the top Flyweight fighters in the world and looked very dominant along the way.
Battling through a little adversity along the way, he was able to overcome 3 losses earlier in his career. The champion has ripped off 7 straight wins since including 3 straight title defenses.
Pantoja is running laps around the division having wins over each of the top 5 contenders. Even giving a shot to UFC new comer & former Rizin champion Kai Asakura, where he made quick work of the contender.
A top level grappler at flyweight his wrestling is at the forefront of his game plan in most fights. Averaging 3 takedowns per fight, he attempts many more with his relentless style.
One of the most decorated submission artists in the Flyweight Division, he has amassed 11 submission victories in his career. Adding 8 KO wins to the resume, Pantoja is one of the most dangerous champions the Flyweight division has ever seen.
His durability has been proven time and time again, constantly walking forward no matter the damage being inflicted. Never being finished, he has used his durability as a weapon in most fights.
In a fight with a striker like Kara – France, it is hard for me to believe he will find a finishing blow over Pantoja. If he can not find the finishing blow, he is in for a long night of grappling and one simple mistake will lead to Pantoja finishing this fight.
Co – Main Event: Alexandre Pantoja (C) vs Kai Kara – France Prediction: Alexandre Pantoja Wins (-220) at BetOnline
Co – Main Event: Alexandre Pantoja (C) vs Kai Kara – France Best Bet: Fight To Start Round 5 – Yes (-130) at BetOnline
