White Sox vs. Braves: Baseball betting is full of unique thrills, but few match the sweat of backing a pitcher to issue free passes. After cashing a walks ladder earlier this week, I could not resist diving right back into the market.
Tonight we get a matchup that lines up perfectly, featuring a veteran arm with control issues against a disciplined lineup that thrives on patience. With the numbers and recent trends pointing in our favor, this one feels too good to ignore.

I think I am hooked. After sweating out Jack Leiter's walks ladder on Monday, I have fallen in love with the grind of watching four balls turn into a free pass. The rush of it is unmatched. I know the prop I am about to lay out is a bit juicy, but I have written up juicier spots before. Plus, I laddered it, so if you want to chase plus money, the option is there.
After back-to-back high-scoring affairs, the White Sox and Braves meet for the third and final game of the series. Across the first two matchups, the teams combined for 43 total runs. Last night, the Braves staged a miraculous comeback, erasing a 10-4 deficit in the seventh inning by putting up five runs, and ultimately beating the White Sox 11-10.
Tonight, the Braves look to complete the sweep, while the White Sox aim to avoid another crushing defeat. They will hand the ball to 34-year-old left-hander Martin Perez, who has struggled all season. Despite only logging 23.1 innings, Perez owns one of the worst ratings on Batters-Box among today's starters. He has allowed at least two walks in every one of his five starts this season, and in three of those games he walked three or more.
His current walk rate of 13.3% is the highest among today's pitchers, and even in his last three starts, he sits at a bloated 15.4%. Perez has carried a walks-per-nine of 3.16 or higher since 2022, so this is not a new issue.
On the flip side, the Braves have been drawing walks at an elite clip. Over the last two weeks they are tied for eighth in walk rate, and over the last four weeks against left-handed pitching they rank third. At home in that same stretch, they sit seventh. No matter the opponent or setting, Atlanta consistently hovers above the 10% mark.
If we dig into the lineup, five Braves hitters own a walk rate north of 10% in their last 30 plate appearances at home. Three of them have a walk rate of 13.3% or higher. On the season, six Braves hitters carry a walk rate of at least 7.8% against left-handers.
I debated whether to stick with Perez's walk prop of 1.5 or chase the alt lines at plus money. In the end, I took both. I love the over 1.5, juice and all, but I also grabbed 3+ walks at +215 and 4+ walks at +600. With numbers and trends like these, I could not resist.
WE WANT BALLS, NOT STRIKES!
Best Bet: Martin Perez Over 1.5 Walks (-155) odds via BetOnline
