Nationals vs. Braves: MLB rolls into the new week with a short three-game slate on this Monday evening, and while the board may feel light, there is always value to be found. When the schedule is this thin, you have to dig a little deeper, and sometimes that means shining the spotlight on a team that has burned bettors more often than not this season. That team is the Atlanta Braves. Yes, the Braves have been one of the biggest letdowns in baseball, but when you strip away the frustration and focus strictly on matchups, opportunities still present themselves.
Washington hands the ball to Mackenzie Gore, a talented young left hander who has recently struggled badly against hitters from his own side of the plate. That opens the door for a Braves slugger who thrives in these exact situations. Keep scrolling, because we are zeroing in on one man who has everything lined up in his favor tonight.

A team I have not been a fan of looking into and possibly finding an angle to back this season, because of how awful they have been, is the Atlanta Braves. However, when MLB gives me a three-game slate to work with, I will dig to find some value. Tonight, the Nationals send out left hander Mackenzie Gore, who has been struggling against left handed hitters over his last few starts. We have to back a leftie to have some success at the dish this evening.
Matt Olson is our guy this evening. He has been fantastic against left handed pitchers this season and has a great matchup against Gore. I did lean toward Drake Baldwin, but he has been on such a massive tear that I shied away from being on him.
Olson has fantastic trends over on Batters-Box. In 64 Great ratings, he records a hit 73% of the time, singles 53% of the time, for those who may enjoy single betting, and finally goes over this prop 45% of the time. In 19 Great ratings at home, he records a hit 74% of the time and records two hits 36% of the time.
Against left handed pitchers in his past few games, he has been eyeing them up extremely well. Over his last 30 at-bats against a southpaw, he owns a .393 BA, .786 SLG and 1.186 OPS. Overall this season, he has a .290 BA, .473 SLG and .818 OPS.
Meanwhile, Mr. Gore has been struggling on the road this season, and left handed hitters have been giving him much more trouble over his last few starts than they have all year. The last 30 he has faced are making 43% hard contact and have a 14% barrel rate. They also have a .328 xBA, .621 xSLG and .341 xwOBA. Overall this season, Gore has allowed 37% hard contact to opposing hitters.
Despite this game being played for pride, I fully expect the Braves slugger to step up on this snoozy Monday night game in Atlanta. The Braves have lacked consistency in key moments, but Olson's ability to punish lefties gives us a bright spot worth backing. His advanced numbers and recent form all line up perfectly with what Gore has been giving up. This is one of those situations where a struggling team can still provide value, and Olson stands out as the clear choice to target. If Atlanta is going to make noise in this one, expect Olson to be at the center of it.
Best Bet: Matt Olson Over 1.5 Total Bases (+125) odds via BetOnline
