Alberta iGaming Generates CA$122.1M in First Results

industry

Alberta's regulated online gambling market generated CA$122.1 million in non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGGR) during its first reporting period. The Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) recorded approximately CA$2.89 billion in wagers between July 13 and September 30, 2026.

The results offer an early look at Alberta's regulated market following its July launch. Online casino games accounted for most revenue, while the number of participating operators continued to grow.

Alberta iGaming Revenue Climbs Through September

Monthly revenue increased throughout the initial reporting period, according to the AiGC's first Market Performance Report. Operators generated CA$22.2 million in July, followed by CA$43.3 million in August and CA$56.6 million in September.

Month Non-adjusted gross gaming revenue
July 2026 CA$22.2 million
August 2026 CA$43.3 million
September 2026 CA$56.6 million
Total CA$122.1 million

July's figure covers only the period from July 13 through July 31, when the regulated market launched. Therefore, the monthly figures show substantial early growth, although July represents a shorter reporting period.

NAGGR measures wagers minus winnings, rather than operators' profits or the government's total gambling revenue. The figures also exclude Play Alberta, the province-owned platform, which reports its performance separately.

Online Casino Games Lead Alberta's Regulated Market

Online casino products dominated September's results, accounting for 75.6% of NAGGR. Sports and event betting contributed 19.5%, while live dealer casino products generated the remaining 4.9%.

Product category Share of September NAGGR Approximate revenue
Online casino 75.6% CA$42.8 million
Sports and event betting 19.5% CA$11.1 million
Live dealer casino 4.9% CA$2.8 million

The breakdown highlights the importance of online casino games to Alberta's regulated gambling sector. Although sports betting attracted considerable activity, casino products generated nearly four times as much revenue as sports and event betting.

Licensed Operators Expand as Alberta iGaming Develops

Alberta's regulated market grew from 15 operators at launch to 24 by September 30. Meanwhile, the province recorded 388,585 active player accounts in September.

However, active accounts do not necessarily represent unique individuals. One person may hold accounts with multiple operators, so the figure should not be treated as a count of individual gamblers.

The market expanded further in October following an October 13 deadline for unregulated sites to join Alberta's legal system. By later that month, more than 50 commercial sites were operating across over 40 licensed operators, marking a significant increase from September's figures.

The expansion reflects Alberta's efforts to establish a regulated alternative to offshore gambling platforms. More licensed operators could increase competition and give players additional options under provincial oversight.

"Early results indicate that Albertans value the strong oversight and greater accountability offered by a regulated market," said Alberta iGaming Corporation CEO Dan Keene on Friday.

"Regulation matters. This is a market where approved iGaming operators are held to high standards of accountability, and where revenue stays in the province to fund programs and services Albertans rely upon."

What Comes Next for Alberta Gambling?

The first report provides an important baseline for assessing Alberta iGaming's performance as the market matures. Subsequent reports should reveal whether revenue continues to rise as more operators establish their presence.

For now, Alberta's first financial results point to a rapidly developing market led by online casino products. Future reporting will help determine whether this early growth translates into sustained revenue and stronger participation in regulated Alberta gambling.
