Belmont Park Picks

horses

The Glen Cove races ask the best question on this card: who brings a finishing kick, and who still has something to prove?

These Belmont Park picks today cover nine races on October 25, 2026, with fast dirt, firm turf and the Grade III Glen Cove contests in Races 5 and 8 giving developing fillies a serious examination.

Brandy and Me brings winning synthetic form to the first of those turf tests, while Life's Dynamic has the early foot to make the later stakes uncomfortable for her more experienced opposition. Before either gets a chance, Bueckers offers the afternoon's most intriguing bigger-priced story in Race 2: a young filly whose wide debut leaves room for a much tidier performance.

These picks reflect the scratches and race-day changes as of publication but check for further changes before post-time. Explore more horse racing picks today, and when you're ready to wager, bet the card at BetOnline.

Race 1: Kayla's Komet can make her own trip

My Pick: #2 Kayla's Komet (Morning line: 7-5)

Kayla's Komet is my strongest opinion on the card because her recent route performance gives her a straightforward way to win this mile: get forward, find a rhythm and make the others come after her. Her latest 89 Beyer came over this dirt course, and that route effort was a clear improvement on her earlier summer races. That race also handed her an excellent trip without serious pressure, so the sensible case rests on her ability to secure another favorable position rather than an assumption that everything about that effort must repeat. The late drift was strategic riding and gives me no reason to invent a greenness problem. This is a tougher allowance condition, though, and an early argument would make that comfortable-looking route to the winner's circle considerably less comfortable.

My alternative: #1 Cozy Curlin Kitten (Morning line: 4-1) brings established dirt-mile form, including a recent effort in which she made a three-wide bid and fought back. Her patient style becomes more attractive if the leader has to spend energy early, although she needs to turn that late involvement into a winning move.

Race 2: Bueckers deserves a cleaner runway

My Pick: #2 Bueckers (Morning line: 12-1)

Bueckers is the longshot who makes this juvenile turf route worth lingering over, with an opening effort that gives her something useful to build on at the same distance. She swung eight wide into the upper stretch on debut and passed tired horses, earning a 65 Beyer without getting the sort of economical passage that makes a young filly's job easier. A second start offers room to improve her racing education, and the desired trip is simple enough: settle behind the early activity, save more ground and arrive with a sustained run. Her recent half-mile work also provides a documented piece of preparation between appearances, rather than leaving the entire argument hanging on what might happen with experience. The danger is that the leaders get comfortable while she is still gathering herself; a better trip helps only if she produces a sharper response when the real running starts.

My alternative: #1 Charlotte's Beach (Morning line: 5-2) has already shown she can carry her speed around this trip, only getting caught late in her latest turf attempt. She can take control of the race before Bueckers gets involved, but another finish that leaves the door open would suit the selection beautifully.

Race 3: Lady Rose needs to stay within reach

My Pick: #4 Lady Rose (Morning line: 9-5)

Lady Rose gets the nod in this small field because her recent dirt-mile form gives her a solid foundation for the extra sixteenth, and her stalking style should let her watch the race develop without doing all the early work. A summer win with a 77 Beyer showed she can finish the job, while her subsequent efforts kept her in familiar company rather than asking readers to trust an ancient peak. There is a tactical catch: this race has a much stronger chance of becoming a measured affair than a frantic one, which makes position more valuable than patience for its own sake. Jose Lezcano needs to keep her connected to the action and ask her to close the gap while there is still enough stretch left to use. Waiting until a comfortable leader has already kicked would turn a perfectly reasonable selection into an unnecessarily difficult project.

My alternative: #1 Sweetest Princess (Morning line: 5-2) is the experienced, forward-running answer to that concern, with recent efforts at this allowance level showing she can stay involved. Give her an inexpensive lead or an easy pressing trip and Lady Rose may have to work much harder than the short field suggests.

Race 4: Social Scene trades distance for urgency

My Pick: #3 Social Scene (GB) (Morning line: 3-1)

Social Scene gets a cautious vote in this six-furlong turf maiden because cutting back changes the question she has struggled to answer in routes. Her latest race saw her rate inside before weakening late, so the appeal here is a shorter assignment that may let her use her positional speed without having to sustain it around another route. Antonio Fresu can seek a stalking trip behind the main speed, then ask for the deciding move before the stretch turns into a last-second dash for daylight. That is a plausible route to improvement, but the sprint itself remains something she must prove, and two lifetime appearances leave plenty of room for surprise in either direction.

My alternative: #6 Florida Patriot (Morning line: 7-5) owns the more direct sprint credentials, having shown speed and fought close finishes in both starts. Her return from a June absence adds a fitness question, but a sharp break could put her in charge and make Social Scene's new assignment feel very short indeed.

Race 5: Brandy and Me takes her winning act to grass

My Pick: #3 Brandy and Me (Morning line: 9-2)

Brandy and Me is my selection in the first Glen Cove contest because both of her synthetic appearances showed a filly capable of making a move and carrying it through the finish. The latest came at this seven-furlong distance in the Algoma, where she worked out from an inside trip, cleared her opposition and earned an 84 Beyer. Saffie Joseph Jr. now asks her to bring that finishing ability to turf, and Paco Lopez has a filly who can stalk or settle rather than demanding the lead at any cost. A race without a punishing early struggle would put a premium on staying close enough to strike, making her position before the turn especially important. The surface switch and step into graded company are real questions for such a lightly raced runner; the attraction is the evidence that she already knows how to finish a race when the opening appears.

My alternative: #2 Paris Carver (Morning line: 8-1) has actual turf success behind her and comes out of the Grade II Presque Isle Downs Masters after making the pace and battling late. She can get first run on Brandy and Me, with the chief question whether she carries that advantage through the full seven furlongs.

Race 6: Mo for the King needs a measured attack

My Pick: #6 Mo for the King (Morning line: 6-5)

Mo for the King has the right sort of tactical flexibility for a dirt sprint with plenty of runners interested in the first part of the race. His best chance is to let the early speed sort itself out, keep contact from just behind it and make his move when the horses ahead begin paying for their enthusiasm. There is useful six-furlong evidence for that picture, including a wide rally in July, although his more recent seven-furlong outing ended with him weakening rather than finishing strongly. Returning from an August break, he needs to bring his sharper sprint form and resist getting dragged into the very contest that should help him.

My alternative: #4 East Coast Girl (Morning line: 7-2) brings recent six-furlong form and enough early speed to make the selection's preferred trip happen. If he gets comfortable in front rather than having to defend his position throughout, that recent racing and proven willingness to win make him a serious obstacle.

Race 7: Material Girl has to finish the argument

My Pick: #3 Material Girl (Morning line: 2-1)

Material Girl's comeback makes her the horse to beat in this state-bred allowance, but the last part of that performance deserves as much attention as the first. She returned from a long absence with a 79 Beyer, showing speed before getting caught, and now has that race behind her as she tackles an additional half-furlong. Manny Franco can put her in a prominent position, yet conserving something for the final drive is more important than proving she can lead a group of horses down the backstretch. A cleaner balance between early speed and late resistance gives her a persuasive case, while another race spent fending off pressure could bring the patient runners into play. The talent is visible in her recent effort; the task today is to carry it all the way through the wire rather than leaving the closing stages open to negotiation.

My alternative: #1 K Gun (Morning line: 9-2) had a substantial stumble in her latest start, which makes that poor effort easier to forgive. Earlier sprint form, including an 80 Beyer, gives her a credible rebound case if she breaks cleanly and gets enough early activity to bring her late run into the race.

Race 8: Life's Dynamic takes the Glen Cove challenge

My Pick: #1 Life's Dynamic (Morning line: 9-2)

Life's Dynamic earns a narrow preference in the later Glen Cove because her recent turf performances combine useful speed with evidence that she can respond when another horse asks a question. She closed effectively at Colonial Downs, then came to Belmont and held after being challenged, earning an 86 Beyer in that latest allowance effort. From the inside, the attractive picture is a filly securing position without wasting ground, then making the more seasoned opposition come and dislodge her. Arnaud Delacour is moving her into graded company on only her fourth career start, so there is still considerable difference between looking promising and proving she belongs against this group. Seven furlongs also asks her to sustain that response a little longer, which is why I prefer a controlled, economical trip to a show of early bravado that leaves the toughest work for tired legs.

My alternative: #5 Lion Lake (Ire) (Morning line: 8-5) comes out of the Grade II Music City, where she was tight between horses before bidding wider, and brings the more established stakes background. A pressing or stalking trip lets her put that experience to work against the selection, although she has had opportunities that ended with another horse finishing the job.

Race 9: Scorch gets the nod in a crowded argument

My Pick: #6 Scorch (Morning line: 9-5)

Scorch is the narrow selection in a genuine multi-horse toss-up, and two names are only a starting point for understanding this finale. The return to six furlongs and move from allowance company into a restricted claiming race offer a more inviting assignment than the latest seven-furlong effort, when she came wide and tired. Her earlier turf sprints showed that she can press or chase and keep running, so Jose Lezcano has a chance to secure a useful position without insisting on an uncontested lead. The disappointing last race still belongs in the conversation, and enough early pressure could make this another afternoon in which the right-looking position fails to produce the right finish. This is the kind of race that punishes certainty: Scorch has a workable path, but several rivals can make her prove every step of it.

My alternative: #13 Cocoa Mills (Morning line: 10-1) has improved through her turf routes and now cuts back sharply, offering a different way into the race if she can adapt to sprint speed. The outside draw and unfamiliar distance complicate the trip, but a handy position followed by a sustained finish gives this lightly raced filly a credible chance to upset the more obvious choice.

My Bottom Line: Let the trip tell the story

Kayla's Komet in Race 1 offers the clearest picture of a horse creating her own advantage, while Bueckers in Race 2 is the bigger-priced selection whose debut leaves room for a more efficient effort. Life's Dynamic in Race 8 supplies the afternoon's most interesting test of promising recent form against established stakes experience.

Simon Dupuis grew up in Montreal with harness racing in his blood. Saturday nights with his father at “Blue Bonnets” watching the standardbreds go, long before he ever placed a bet of his own. Though he loved the sport and the time with his dad, what really fascinated him were the numbers behind it. While other kids were memorizing driver names, Simon was already trying to figure out why the morning line never quite matched the real odds or the eventual winner. That love of numbers followed him to college where he studied statistics, in part because he wanted to bring real rigor to handicapping. After a few years in the banking sector, Simon made the jump and turned that statistical training into a full-time profession, building models that treat every card as a probability problem that can turn into cold hard cash.
