If you are an enthusiast of the sweet science, this weekend should be an extremely exciting one. Multiple major boxing matches are on the calendar, including tonight's WBC welterweight title bout between Mario Barrios and Ryan Garcia. And as with the other top tilts on this weekend's schedule, Barrios vs. Garcia will air live on DAZN, the home of boxing.

The matchup between Barrios, the WBC welterweight champion since June 2024, and Garcia, is one of three notable fights taking place this weekend. Also taking place today is a highly anticipated rematch between Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington, who was ahead on the judges' scorecards when Wood knocked him out in their WBA featherweight title bout in October 2023. Tomorrow, Claressa Shields will defend her undisputed heavyweight title against Franchon Crews-Dezurn, nearly a decade after the two met in their respective professional debuts.

Tonight, Sin City will be in the spotlight as T-Mobile Arena will play host to a compelling clash between Barrios and Garcia. Barrios is the champion, but Garcia is the fight favorite according to Lucky Rebel and other top online sportsbooks.

If you do not have one, now is the perfect time to sign up for a DAZN Ultimate Tier subscription, as it will grant you access to Wood vs. Warrington, Barrios vs. Garcia, Shields vs. Crews-Dezurn, and much, much more.

Barrios vs. Garcia Prediction and Picks

This matchup marks another matchup in which the champion has entered as the underdog.

For last month's Muratalla vs. Cruz bout, Andy Cruz was favored over Raymond Muratalla, who upset the odds and successfully defended his IBF lightweight title with a majority decision win over the former Olympic gold medalist.

A week later, the same was the case for Lopez vs. Stevenson, as Teofimo Lopez was the underdog for his junior welterweight title bout against Shakur Stevenson, who was looking to become a four-division world champion. However, Lopez, however, could not match Muratalla with an upset victory. Instead, Stevenson backed up pre-fight predictions and took Lopez's two belts, controlling the fight from the outset in a dominant unanimous decision win.

Which direction will Barrios vs. Garcia go? Since being elevated to WBC welterweight champion almost two years ago, Barrios has retained his title twice, but neither came with a victory, recording a split draw decision following a brutal battle with Abel Ramos in November 2024 and a majority draw against Manny Pacquiao last July.

Garcia, meanwhile, will return to the ring for the first time since losing to Rolando Romero by unanimous decision last May.

That was the first bout at 147 for Garcia, who made it the distance after being knocked down in the second round but lost 115-112, 115-112, and 118-109 on the judges' scorecards.

Garcia's speed and power are undeniable, and when he's on, he's one of the best in the business. And he will no doubt have a lot of motivation to return to winning ways after a disappointing result against Romero.

But Barrios shouldn't be counted out, especially as he has Joe Goossen, Garcia's former trainer, in his corner. The intimate knowledge Goossen has could prove to be very valuable.

Barrios vs. Garcia Picks

Fight to Go the Distance (-112 at Lucky Rebel)

Barrios vs. Garcia Over 10.5 Rounds (-138 at Lucky Rebel)

If you want to bet on either side, there is a lot of value in backing Barrios, and not just because he is the underdog.

Garcia has the power and the potential, but until he definitively takes the next step without getting in his own way again, there's only so much confidence you can have in him.

At the same time, that Barrios couldn't see off Ramos or a 46-year-old Pacquiao despite being a firm favorite in both fights is certainly a concern if you do want to bet on him, as Garcia represents a tougher challenge than either Ramos or Pacquiao if he is in the right headspace.

Ultimately, the best value may be in taking the fight to go the distance. Both fighters have scored their share of knockouts, and Garcia's punching power could turn the fight, especially if he can wear Barrios down. However, with what we've seen from each fighter recently, a full dozen rounds is the likeliest outcome tonight at T-Mobile Arena.
