When Jake Paul defeated fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib and former NBA player Nate Robinson in his first two fights, nobody batted an eye. But that’s changed as his competition level has increased with each passing fight.
Paul scored a TKO victory against former Bellator Welterweight Champion Ben Askren in his third fight. After that, the Cleveland, Ohio native went on to defeat former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley in back-to-back outings — once by split decision and the other by knockout.
Paul was eventually supposed to face Hasim Rahman Jr. — someone with a legitimate boxing background — but that fight fell through due to weight problems. Now, he looks to continue his successful boxing run against “The Spider.”
Meanwhile, Anderson Silva made a name for himself as one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time. A former UFC Middleweight Champion, Silva went 34-11 (one no-contest) in the octagon, piling up 23 knockout victories over his illustrious MMA career.
Having said that, Silva has also dabbled in four boxing matches in his career. It’s not the biggest sample size, but he has won three straight fights, defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Tito Ortiz — by split decision and KO, respectively — back in 2021.
Nevertheless, it’ll be interesting to see how Silva performs now that he’s 47 years old. Both Chavez (35) and Ortiz (46) were older than Paul (25) is now when Silva faced him, so only time will tell if the age difference causes any sort of impact this weekend.
Silva vs Paul Prediction and Best Bets
When it comes to an outright winner, it’s hard to bet against Paul. He may not be the most well-liked boxer, but he has taken his training more seriously lately, dedicating the last 2.5 years to the craft.
That’s not a knock against Silva, but the fact remains that the former UFC fighter isn’t exactly in his prime. Facing an opponent that’s 22 years younger than him will be tough. There have also been reports that Silva was knocked out twice while training for the upcoming fight, however, his camp has denied those rumors.
I could see this fight going this distance, in all honesty. Both men are good enough to stand their own ground, but Paul having the youth advantage and Silva having more combat sports experience will lead to this one heading to the judge’s table.
If that does happen, I’m expecting the victory to go to Paul. The best value for him in an outright victory is to take him at -149 odds on BetMGM.
However, if you’re looking to get more value, I’d take Paul winning by decision at +170 odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. After all, he did go the distance with Woodley in their first fight, whereas Silva also went all eight rounds with Chavez last year.
Either way, this is a fight that fans won’t want to miss.
