The first season of Joe Judge’s tenure with the New York Giants was a rough one, thanks in part to the loss of star running back Saquon Barkley in Week 2. Barkley would not have made all the difference for the Giants, but without him, second-year quarterback Daniel Jones and the offense struggled to produce all season long.

Jones, who had 24 touchdown passes as a rookie in 2019, managed only 11 touchdown passes last season, and the Giants were one of the NFL’s least productive teams offensively. Only once last season did the Giants manage to cross the 30-point mark, and that was in a Week 5 loss to the Cowboys, who were one of the league’s worst defensive teams. The Giants did have one of the NFL’s better defenses over the course of the season, but it wasn’t good enough to offset the offense’s struggles to move the ball and put points on the board.

Expectations are low for the Giants entering this season, with NFL betting odds showing little faith in the Giants to win the NFC East, much less return to the postseason for the first time since the 2016 season. But as last season showed, anything can happen in the NFC East. At the very least, progress offensively will go a long way in building faith that Jones and Judge can return to the Giants to winning ways in the near future.
