UEFA Europa League Quarterfinals, 1st Leg: April 11th, 2024

The UEFA Europa League is back as the Quarterfinals happen today with the 1st leg of action! We are down to our final 8 teams, and all of them play today!
In the UEL we have:
- AC Milan vs AS Roma
- Bayer Leverkusen vs West Ham
- Benfica vs Marseille
- Liverpool vs Atalanta

UEFA Europa League Match Day
Benfica vs Marseille
In this Europa League match in Portugal, I'll be backing defense and taking this game to stay under.
Benfica has seen several low scoring bouts recently, with only 1 of their L5 games going over this number. They are one of the top teams in the Portuguese Liga and I expect them to handle business against their French Foe.
Marseille has really struggled to produce any goals in recent games. They've netted just 4 goals in their last 5 matches in all competitions, and against a Benfica back line on the road, tonight might be extremely difficult for their offense.
The Benfica defense has shutout their opponent in 3 of their last 5 games, and they've only allowed more than 3 goals once this calendar year. They've allowed 2+ a few times, but to the best teams in their league.
Call me crazy, but I would take the Portuguese Liga over Ligue 1 (besides PSG), and I think the level of competition does play a role today on the pitch.
Give me Benfica to play solid defense, holding this game under 3 total goals.
The Pick: Benfica/Marseille Under 3 (-143) Bovada
UEFA Europa League Leans
While the under talked about above is my only concrete bet for the UEL today, I do have slight leans in the other matches.
Liverpool vs Atalanta
Liverpool is a heavy favorite at home against the 3rd Italian Club left in the UEFA Europa League, and personally I think they are just too good. The EPL is certianly better than the Serie A, especially considering Liverpool is fighting for a league title while Atalanta is simply fighting to be in the Europa League next season.
I don't see any value on Liverpool, but I imagine they get it done at home.
AC Milan vs AS Roma
In the battle between two Serie A clubs, I think we see defense really come to play. These clubs are overly familiar with one another and certainly have the personnel to keep the other from scoring. Roma will certainly play for the draw and try to win it at home next week, while I expect Milan to come out firing.
Bayer Leverkusen vs West Ham
It is certainly tough to bet against the club currently leading the Bundesliga despite competing with Bayern Munich, however one could argue that West Ham is slightly more battle tested overall. I would certainly not bet against the home team in Germany, but it would not surprise me if West Ham went back home leading on aggregate.
