The UEFA Champions League is back as the Round of 16 has the second leg of play continues today! We've had six teams already punch their ticket, congrats PSG, Munich, Man City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Arsenal.
Today we finalize the field for the Quarterfinals.
In the UCL we have:
- Atlético Madrid vs Inter Milan
- Borussia Dortmund vs PSV
Let's break these games down and find our best bets!
UEFA Champions League Match Day
Atlético Madrid vs Inter Milan
Back in Spain, Atlético finds themselves down 1-nil on aggregate after losing in Milan. Now they must fight for their lives in front of their home crowd.
They are fighting for a spot in the UEFA Champions League next year in La Liga, currently sitting in 4th, two points ahead of Athletic Club. Plus, Madrid has been shaky their past few matches.
Since their loss at Milan, Madrid is 1-2-1, getting shutout twice on the road, but pulling off the win in their lone home game. They will have to bring their all against this stout Inter defense, and I think they may struggle to do so.
Inter Milan has shutout their opponent in 5 of their L6 games, including the 1st Leg against Atlético. Milan won both road games since the 1st leg, winning 4-0 and 1-0 to Bologna, who are currently 4th in Serie A. Milan comes to Madrid up 1-nil, and I expect them to be very defensive minded.
I like Inter to hold their attack back, possessing the ball and playing keep away from the feet of Atlético. Ultimately, I think this is a boring game of soccer and stays under 2.5.
The Pick: Atlético/Inter Under 2.5 (-115) Bovada
Borussia Dortmund vs PSV
Back in Germany, tied 1-1 on aggregate, I have to take Dortmund at home to win this game. Dortmund is coming off two road wins in Bundesliga play, but they lost their last home outing to Hoffenheim. Despite being up 2-1 in the 25th minute, Dortmund allowed two goals in the 2nd half to lose the game.
I think in this crucial 2nd leg, Dortmund gets their revenge on a different squad. This team will be fired up to not only advance in the UEFA Champions League, but also give their fans something to be proud of.
Since that loss, they've handled business, and I think they come very focused to get the job done today at home.
PSV has won their last two on the road, but to terrible Dutch squads. When they played 2nd place Feyenoord Rotterdam, they tied 2-2 at home.
On the road in a hostile environment against a team with more experience in the UCL, give me Dortmund to get it done.
