UEFA Champions League, Knockout Round: February 14th, 2024

The UEFA Champions League is back today as the Knockout Round continues with the first leg of the first set of games today!
Today in the UCL we have:
- Lazio vs Bayern Munich
- Paris Saint-Germain vs Real Sociedad
Let's break these games down and find our best bets!
Lazio vs Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich travels to Italy to take on Lazio in this first leg of the UCL Knockout Round. Munich is coming off a 3-0 loss on the road to Leverkusen in Bundesliga play. However, they have their real hopes set on lifting the Champions League Trophy.
Despite that 3-0 loss on Saturday, Munich is rock solid all around the pitch. In Champions League play, they went 5-0-1 in Group Stage, winning their group with ease.
Lazio on the other hand has had a lackluster Serie A season. They currently sit in 8th place, barely squeaking into Europa League qualifying next year. Despite coming off a Saturday win, they have been shaky the last couple of games.
In 2024, Lazio is 4-2-1 with 3 one goal wins and both losses happening by multiple goals.
Against Bayern at home, I expect them to play this game to a draw and maybe squeak in a winner late. Lazio knows they are outmatched talent wise, and Munich should come with plenty of firepower.
I don't expect Lazio to score at all, but I think Munich has their own trouble producing chances and struggles to produce opportunities. Although this will be sweaty, I'm rooting for a 1-1 draw or at best a 2-0 Munich win.
The Pick: Lazio/Bayern Munich Under 2.5 (-102) Bovada
Paris Saint-Germain vs Real Sociedad
In this game, we are going to get even cheekier. PSG starts their final UCL campaign with Kylian Mbappe, and this team is on top of Ligue 1 at the moment. PSG has dominated opponents all season, losing just once since the beginning of October.
The talent level is astronomical compared to Sociedad, and I really think the defense makes a huge stand tonight at home.
As far as Real Sociedad goes, they are having a character building season. After finishing 4th and qualifying for the UCL, Sociedad finds themselves in 7th place of La Liga right now. Plus, they have not scored in their last 4 games.
Now, three of those matches were nil-nil draws, but most recently they lost to Osasuna at home on Saturday, 1-0. Sociedad has been shutout 9 times since La Liga play began, and I think on the road PSG will be able to keep the clean sheet.
I expect PSG to handle business, but ultimately I do not think they let Sociedad even sniff an opportunity to score.
