Despite us having two Elite Eight games on the College Hoops hardwood, the MLS is in full swing and we've got tons of action on this Saturday. We dove into the slate and found our MLS best bets for this weekend. Don't worry, it's a very long soccer season, and we will dive deeper as it really gets going.
But for now, head over to our MLS picks page for all of our expert's soccer projections, or take a look at my best bets below.
It's not sexy, I know it. Nobody likes to bet unders, especially ones involving Inter Miami. They scored 79 goals last year in just 34 matches, and this year they've netted 9 already in four contests. But they face the Philadelphia Union who sit on top of the Eastern Conference early. They are 4-0-1, allowing just 6 goals in 5 matches, and scoring 12 of their own.
However, their focus will be on defense.
Lionel Messi is set to return after missing time for Argentina and Miami over the past few weeks. The Union should know they are outmatched offensively, and instead play for a draw and try to secure at least one point on the road. Philadelphia is coming off a shutout win against St. Louis, and they've shutout two of their opponents this season, doing so to New England on the road. I see the Union playing very conservative and trying to keep Miami out of the danger zone.
Goals, goals, goals! Seattle has had trouble scoring on the road, but I trust them to net a couple against the Earthquakes tonight. They've scored and allowed 7 goals in their 5 matches this season, while San Jose has scored and allowed 8 each in their 5 matches. The Earthquakes defense has been very iffy recently, allowing 6 goals in their last two contests, including two in their last match at home to Colorado, a team that has only netted 6 goals all year.
Both teams are desperate for points early in the season, and I see them playing with some urgency and attacking the net. The Sounders have been shutout in their last two and only scored 1 over their last 3 in all competitions, but did find the back of the net 5 times against LAFC a few weeks ago. Like I said, the Sounders have not netted a goal on the road yet this season, but today is the perfect time for that to change. They've put up double digit shot attempts in every single MLS match this year, they just need to put them on frame.
I see them testing the Earthquakes' keeper tonight, who has not played well in recent matches. Give me goals in this late night contest.
