The 2025 Women's EURO is underway across the pond in Switzerland, and today we have two Top 10 teams in the world going head to head, likely to decide the group. England (No. 5) takes on France (No. 10) this afternoon, to begin their EURO campaigns.

Clara Mateo patrols the midfield for the French National team
This is the opening game in this "Group of Death" which also includes Wales (No.30) and the Netherlands (No. 11). The two latter teams face each other earlier in the day, but we will focus on the Top 10 matchup. These teams have played three friendlies the past few matches with France winning two of those three.
However, last time it mattered, England took down France in the 2017 EURO Quarterfinals.
Will France enact their revenge today and take down the Lionesses? Or can England start their EURO defense with three points in group stage?
Matchup Information – France vs. England – July 5
Venue & Location: Stadion Letzigrund (Zurich, Switzerland)
Despite the French side having a bit more recent success in international competition, I do lean with England here. France has brought up several young players for this competition, while England has plenty of the same pieces that helped them win the EURO back in 2021.
I think the defending champions make a statement tonight, letting the rest of the competition know they are still the betting favorite in this group for a reason. Although they are just third overall to win this tournament, I lean with them to earn three points tonight.
Back the Lionesses with me tonight. France is playing without their stud, veteran center back, Wendie Renard, who was not called to the roster for this competition.
Whether or not that is the right move, I couldn't tell you. But what I do know, is that this severely hurts the French defense, which England could take full advantage of.
The Lionesses also have the motivation of losing in the Women's World Cup Final to Spain on their side. Nearly every player on this roster was involved in that campaign, and a team with that kind of determination can be very scary to face. England should come well prepared for a fight tonight, and I think they'll be able to handle their opponent.
Unfortunately for France, they might be on the receiving end of a butt kicking tonight.
