There are only 3 matches remaining in this prestigious tournament that always arrives and leaves so quickly. We must embrace the few matchups left and enjoy it while it lasts!
Let’s dive in to the EURO 2024 Semifinals.
EURO 2024 Updated Betting Odds
Since we are down to our last four teams, let’s take a look at the current odds to win it all, courtesy of BetOnline.
- Spain +185
- England +265
- France +275
- Netherlands +475
If you’ve been keeping up on where my head has been at all EURO long, you’d know I’ve looked at just 3 teams all tournament, and all 3 remain in the Semifinals. I looked at England at +300, Spain at +800, and the Netherlands at +1800 prior to the start of EURO 2024. So far, we are looking real good.
Let’s dive deeper into these two matchups.
EURO 2024 Semifinal Matchups
Spain vs France
What an electric matchup we have between France (2nd) and Spain (8th), who most recently played in the UEFA Nations League in October of 2021. That was just months after the EURO 2020, and France took the win 2-1. The French only made it out of the Group Stage in EURO 2020, losing in the Round of 16 to Switzerland in PKs. Spain is now in their 2nd straight EURO 2024 Semifinals, losing to eventual Champion, Italy, in Penalty Kicks after a 1-1 draw.
Now, we’ve got a young stud who just made an enormous transfer out of his home country going up against a squad that is full of young studs looking to make their mark, however they will be without midfielder, Pedri. He was injured only 10 minutes into the quarterfinal against Germany and was ruled out for the rest of the tournament. However, I still think the Spanish will be able to get it done.
Again, if you’ve been reading my stuff on EURO 2024 all month, Spain have been my champion from the get-go, and even an injury to Pedri doesn’t scare me off. This team is deep, they are scoring goals, unlike the French, but still have a solid backline. They are playing fearless soccer, and tomorrow I’m sure I’ll find a way to back them.
Netherlands vs England
Both the Dutch (7th) and English (5th) miraculously survived their quarterfinal matchups and face off in the semifinals. I liked England from the beginning of the tournament, as they lost in heartbreaking fashion three short years ago. Sitting at +300 pre-tournament, I certainly wasn’t going to bet it, because it’s England. They find a way to lose…. but so far that hasn’t been the case.
Despite being less than a few kicks away from defeat in the Round of 16, Jude Bellingham saved the nation, and forced Extra Time where they went on to find a winner. They battled with the Swiss for 75 minutes before allowing a goal, and could have easily sunk to defeat right there. But nevertheless, they rallied the troops, equalized 6 minutes later, and won it in PKs.
The Dutch also found themselves down against Turkey, but quickly found a couple winners to seal their spot in the Semifinals. As for this game, I have some homer tendencies towards the Dutch, but regardless I think they are playing better soccer and will find a way to take down the English.
