Does Scotland Stand a Chance in EURO Opening?

Scotland is a Top 40 team in the World, but has a tough group ahead

Scotland was able to qualify for EURO 2024, and even beat 8th ranked Spain in the process, but they have a very tough draw in Group A. Not only do they open the tournament against the Top 20 hosts, but they are the lowest ranked team in their Group. Scotland is literally David going up against Goliath tonight in Munich, and they should be very aware of how outmanned they are.

Talent wise, Germany is simply in a league above the rest of their opponents in Group A. Their back line is commanded by veteran Antonio Rüdiger who just won the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid and the options are endless in the midfield. Toni Kroos and Ilkay Gündoğan are most likely playing in their last EUROs, but they can show 21 year old Jamal Musiala the ropes. Up top, plenty of options exist as well with Müller, Kai Havertz and company.

Ultimately, this is Germany's group to lose, and I intend to watch them roll through their opponents. However today, I will be backing their defense and taking a stab at Scotland's team total.

For reasonable juice here, I'll take Scotland to not find the back of the net. Do I think Germany wins as well? Most likely. So feel free to take Germany to win to nil priced around (-110), however I think there is a small chance this ends 0-0. I know I sound crazy, but hear me out.

Germany is hosting this tournament, there is so much excitement built up around this team with a lot of their stars getting older, and this would be a storybook ending writing itself if they were able to lift the trophy. But Scotland knows this. They know they are outmatched talent wise, they know Germany is looking to send a statement on opening night, and they should know they can't keep up offensively.

I think for this reason, Scotland comes out extremely defensive, looking to hold on for 90 minutes of play. A nil-nil draw is a beautiful result for Scotland, who would walk away with a point and chances to beat Hungary and Switzerland. I believe Scotland will park the bus, be on their heels, and play keep away from Germany in this opening match, hopefully giving us a boring 90 minutes of action.

Ultimately, I think Germany wins this game and shuts out Scotland, so I'll lay some juice on their TT Under.
