The final matches of Group Stage play in the Copa America happen tonight for Group C, as the United States battles Uruguay and Panama takes on Bolivia. This match tonight between the US and Uruguay has huge implications, as the United States is in need of a win to move on and keep their Copa America dreams alive.
Although Uruguay has not quite won the group, they certainly control their own destiny. A win or a draw tonight secures Uruguay 1st place in Group C, and a spot in the Quarterfinals. There are scenarios where Uruguay advances with a loss, but they would need some specifics to happen in the other match.

The United States does not control their own destiny anymore. Following their loss to Panama, the United States cannot simply win and move on. Other things need to happen, so let's spell those out for you.
Uruguay Qualifying Scenarios
- Win Group with a win or draw
- Can advance with loss AND win or draw from Bolivia
- Can advance with loss AND win from Panama (Would need to win goal differential tiebreaker)
United States Qualifying Scenarios
- Advance with a win or draw AND a win from Bolivia
- Can advance with win AND win from Panama (Would need to win goal differential tiebreaker)
- Can advance with draw AND draw between Panama and Bolivia
- Can advance with loss AND win from Bolivia (Would need to win goal differential tiebreaker)
Now, there are still plenty of what ifs, and both squads with be playing close attention to what is going on in the other game, however for the US, you can think of it very simply.
The United States needs to win, and most likely needs to beat Panama on goal differential. Because of this, I think the United States come out flying. They arguably have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.

I'll admit, capping this game was tricky to me, and I will try to take my boots on the ground narrative out of it, but I think we see some goals. I am banking on these teams coming out flying in the first half, and for plus money with some push potential, I think we could see 2 goals in the first 45 minutes.
Uruguay has soared over in every game the've played, however in their 3-1 win against Panama, 3 goals happened after the 85th minute. Against Bolivia, Uruguay netted 2 before the 25th minute, eventually winning 5-0. The United States have had their share of high flying first halves as well, netting both goals against Bolivia in the first 45, and scoring and conceding before the 30th minute against Panama. Here's my thinking.
First off, plus money and push potential. Sold. Yes, Uruguay might be conservative and play for a draw, but the United States certainly won't. If I'm the US, I plan on Panama beating Bolivia, hopefully not by 2 or more goals, meaning they will need the win to advance. Like I said, everything to gain, nothing to lose. So assuming the United States come out firing, they may leave themselves exposed to the Uruguayan counter attack on the back end, possibly resulting in a cupcake goal for them.
For full transparency, I am also on the United States Draw No Bet (-125) as it would feel weird going to Arrowhead and not cheering on the hosts. Go Chiefs 🙂
