Cristian Roldan and the Sounders host the Columbus Crew tonight
These teams only played once last year, with the Sounders handing a big loss to the Crew, downing them 4-0 on the road. Currently, Columbus is fourth on the Eastern Conference standings, and three points would bring them tied with the Philadelphia Union at 40 total. The Crew have now won three straight matches, but have lost two consecutive away from home.
Seattle was recently embarrassed in the FIFA Club World Cup, losing all three matches to tough opponents. But since returning to league play, they beat Austin FC at home last week, and I think they are ready to roll for this match as well.
Matchup Information – Columbus Crew vs. Seattle Sounders – July 6
They are 6-2-1 at home this season, losing only to Minnesota United after the teams combined for four goals in just seven minutes of gameplay. Seattle simply plays very well in front of their home fans, and I could see them using this match to really propel themselves up the Western Conference.
A win keeps them in fifth place, but would put them just a single point behind the Portland Timbers on the table. They do not squander chances for points at home, having totaled 20 of their 29 points from home this season.
We are taking the double chance line here with the away team on the road, but let me be honest and admit I have also put half a unit on the draw at +285, so I'll kind of be rooting for the Sounders if things get out of hand.
Columbus is very relentless, and despite losing two straight away from home, they are 3-3-2 away this season. So success is on the horizon for this club.
I see both teams respecting their opponent, knowing the attacking power the other could possess. I also lean with the under 3, as both clubs should focus on limiting the chances created by the other. Neither will admit it, but one point is an alright result for both teams.
I see a possession battle happening in this contest, prior to the real footy match the people want tonight, the Gold Cup Final as the United States takes on Mexico. However in this match, take Columbus on the Double Chance line, or the full time draw if you are a real degenerate.
