Tampa Bay Lightning vs Florida Panthers: NHL Game 4 Best Bets

The Battle of Florida continues in Sunrise tonight for Game 4 as the Panthers host the Tampa Bay Lightning. After winning both contests on the road, the Panthers were dominated in their first home game of this series. Tonight they look to get some revenge on their own ice.

Florida absolutely smacked the Lightning in Game 1 on the scoreboard, winning 6-2. However the teams combine for just 39 total shots on goal (17 from the Panthers), with Florida scoring on all three of their power play opportunities. Game 2 was just as conservative, with only 42 shots between the two teams and only two goals, both from Florida in a shutout victory. Things were looking good going back home for the defending champions.

However, then the Bolts struck.

Although Tampa Bay fell down 1-0 within three minutes of the puck dropping, and were outshot 34-22, the Lightning battled, netting five straight goals (three in the 3rd period) on their way to sweet road revenge, winning 5-1. Andrei Vasilevskiy finally came alive in net in Game 3, can he keep it up on the road after a 33 save performance?

So let me get this straight. In Game 1 in Tampa, Florida scored a bunch of goals, converted on every power play, and Vasilevskiy had arguably the worst outing of his 11 year career. In Game 2, things were much more of what we expected, the Panthers just played phenomenal defense for a full 60 minutes, allowing just 19 shots on goal. But then in Game 3, we had Sergei Bobrovsky have one of his starts that he'll wish to forget, allowing four goals on just 21 shots faced.

I expect us to see more of a "normal" Game 4, much like we saw the 2nd game in Tampa. Look for both goal tenders to hone in their skills, but I am leaning with the hosts tonight.

What really stuck out to me in Game 3, despite Bobrovsky's subpar performance, was the fact that Florida and Tampa Bay killed all nine combined penalties. The Panthers killed all five they faced, while the Lightning killed all four they conceded to the hosts. Plus, Florida ripped 12 more shots than the Lightning did, making Vasi work as much as they could.

Florida has now outshot the Lightning in back to back games, and all three against them at home this year. However, the Panthers are 1-2 against Tampa Bay in Sunrise this season, giving up 10 goals and only netting three of their own. This year, the Lightning weren't very good on the road, posting an 18-19-4 record away from home, while the Panthers were 27-12-2 in Sunrise. Florida was 9-4 at home during their Stanley Cup run last year, and have now lost to the Lightning twice on their own ice. I don't think they let that happen again tonight.

They do not want to give the Lightning anymore momentum heading back to Tampa for Game 5, and I expect Florida to play extremely aggressive in order to finish this game off in 60 minutes. Look for the Ice Cats to bounce back and get a much needed win in Gam 4 tonight.
