We have tons of games on the ice tonight throughout the NHL, so let’s discuss arguably the game of the night in Toronto, as the Maple Leafs host the Florida Panthers.
Just 6 points separate these squads, and with the number of games left declining quickly, it’s now or never to secure playoff positions.
This is the first game of a Canadien road trip for the Ice Cats, who take on the Habs and Seantors later this week. Can they take down the Maple Leafs at home and extend their lead in the standings?

Will Panthers Take Down Leafs on Road?
Florida has clinched their playoff berth, but still have plenty to play for regarding playoff seeding. Just 2 points behind the Bruins, they have their sights on a#1 seed in the Atlantic. The Panthers are 47-22-5 overall but play well on the road, posting a 25-9-3 record.
As stated above, this is the first game of a four game road trip, with three games North of the Border and then a game in Boston to wrap it up. With some key injuries for the Maple Leafs, my gut tells me this is a game the Panthers could win, and clearly the books think so too as they are favored.
Now the Leafs are missing Defenseman Morgan Reilly, and with a total this high juiced to the over, I think we can expect some goals. Both teams give up plenty of shots to their opponent, so I think we could see plenty of fireworks in this game.
Here’s where my coin is going to be at in this one.
Panthers vs Maple Leafs Best Bets – NHL Player Props
Evan Rodrigues Over 1.5 SOGs (-152) BetOnline
For just 2 SOGs from the kid, I’m more than willing to pay this juice. Let me tell you why.
Rodrigues plays on the 2nd line with Sam Bennett and Matthew Tkachuk, two guys who require much more attention. He’s also on the 2nd PP unit, with plenty of opportunity to rip the puck, which he’s been doing recently.
So far this season, Rodrigues averages 2.4 SOGs per game, clearing 2+ in 66% of games. On the road, those numbers jump to 2.6 and 74% of games (25/34). He’s cleared this line in 20/L30, 10/L15, and 5/L8, posting 3+ SOGs 3 times in his last 8 contests.
Last game he had 4 SOGs on 7 total attempts, and he does incredibly well against Toronto.
Not only does the Maple Leafs defense rank 22nd in Shot Attempts allowed, but Rodrigues has cleared this line in 6 of his L7 against Toronto, posting 1 SOG in all 7 games. He’s had 3+ 3 times against the Leafs in his career, and in 2 games this season, Rodrigues has 6 SOGs on 12 total attempts, clearing 2+ in both games.
I’m willing to pay the juiceman, and I hope to see you all at the counter.
Bonus Bet: Evan Rodrigues 3+ SOGs (+185)
