NHL best bet

nhl

We had the dreaded reverse sweep in the last article. And while nothing pains me more than throwing out a dud, nothing motivates me more than making it right. So let's crack that broom closet and bounce back tonight. We have a nice big slate, that has a ton of value with some really prime matches and with some lesser known players heating up. Let's end the season strong, starting today and pump up our 40-47 record on the articles, that has tons of plus money value by finding some of the best NHL bets tonight.

We will be breaking down NHL best bets here at Betting News all playoffs long! Each article will look for VALUE, as in straights you can take to build up your bankroll or pieces you can use to beef up your parlays. All bets will be -135 or better odds. And while we will focus on NHL player props, there are times we will take sides and totals. So keep your eyes peeled here as we will drop these throughout the week.

And if you haven't already be sure to check out some of my favorite futures and awards. So time to lace them up and get ready to ride with Betzky for my favorite NHL best bets of the day.

1.  Bo Horvat o3.5 SOG +140 on Lucky Rebel:

Mat Barzal and Bo Horvat

Islanders forwards Mat Barzal and Bo Horvat celebrate after scoring a goal.

Bo Horvat over 3.5 shots on goal looks like an NHL best bet for Tuesday, March 10, 2026, because the setup blends steady season-long volume with a recent spike in usage. The Islanders are in St. Louis tonight, and Horvat has been one of New York's more reliable shot generators all year, sitting at about 3.3 shots per game on the season.

The clearest case for the over is recent form. Horvat has 37 shots in his last 10 games, which is 3.7 per game, and he posted 22 shots across a recent five-game stretch from February 26 through March 5. In that five-game sample, he recorded 6, 4, 3, 5, and 4 shots, so he was clearing this 3.5 line regularly rather than needing a total outlier performance. He also just put 6 shots on goal up against San Jose in his most recent outing.

The matchup helps too. St. Louis has allowed 27.62 shots against per game this season, and its home penalty kill has been just 75.9%. Even though a shots prop does not rely entirely on special teams, weak penalty killing usually means more offensive-zone time and more chances for top-unit forwards like Horvat to pile up attempts. The Blues are also making some changes on the back end tonight, with Colton Parayko returning and Theo Lindstein making his NHL debut, which adds a little instability to their defensive mix. At big plus money value, Horvat's shots look like an NHL best bet.

2. Auston Matthews Goal +150 on Lucky Rebel:

Auston Matthews

Leafs forward Auston Matthews goes after the puck after a faceoff.

Going right back to this one. Auston Matthews is goalless since the Olympics break. In fact he is goalless in 11 straight games. This is an outlier for him, and something he has not done all season long, and did not happen last season. He is due. And I love betting on players who are due. The Toronto Maple Leafs have now lost every game since the break and desperately need a win. I just don't see how Matthews doesn't get on board.

This is is a tougher matchup than when we took him against the Rangers in the last article. But he does get a division rival in the Montreal Canadiens who he has success against. He has a goal in 5 of the last 10 games against the Canadiens and 7 goals in those games. And while Montreal have been strong defensively all season, they have fallen recently, allowing the 12th most goals against per game over the last 10 games.

Matthews is clearly looking to get the monkey off his back as well. Over the last four games he has a combined 24 SOG off of 33 shot attempts. Add it all up and it's easy to see why this is an NHL best bet.

3. Logan Cooley o1.5 SOG -120 on Lucky Rebel:

Logan Cooley is ready to rack up shots

Utah HC forward Logan Cooley prepares to take the faceoff.

On paper this NHL best bet doesn't add up. Cooley has only hit his SOG prop in two games since returning from injury after the Olympic break. But one of those hits came against the Minnesota Wild, who is the team the Utah Mammoth will take on tonight. The context here matters, because Cooley took the University of Minnesota hockey team to the NCAA championship, and he LOVES playing against the Wild because of it.

The matchup gives him a fair path to clear it. Minnesota is allowing about 30.3 shots against per game this season, which is a healthy number and suggests opposing forwards are still getting volume against them. In other words, this is not a shutdown environment where every Utah skater should be downgraded on shot props alone. In fact the Wild have allowed the 2nd most shots against over the last 10 games.

Cooley has hit in 5 of his 8 career games against the Wild. He averages 3.8 shot attempts when playing against them and has 6 points in the last three games against them. He clearly steps up his game when going against his alumni. To really tie the bow around this NHL best bet, the Wild are allowing the 3rd most shots against to the center position. Between Cooley's extra motivation and the Wild's weakness to shots, this looks like one tasty bet.
