NHL best bet

nhl

We were so close to a sweep going 2-1 on our last article. Tonight, all but two NHL teams will face off. But in slates this big, there are more ways to find mispriced props to take advantage of. There are so many interesting matchups tonight and great ways to find value on NHL player props. Time to zig and zag to find some NHL best bets on this big Thursday slate. Let's start building up units by boosting our 35-37 record on the articles, that has tons of plus money value.

We will be breaking down NHL best bets here at Betting News all playoffs long! Each article will look for VALUE, as in straights you can take to build up your bankroll or pieces you can use to beef up your parlays. All bets will be -135 or better odds. And while we will focus on NHL player props, there are times we will take sides and totals. So keep your eyes peeled here as we will drop these throughout the week.

And if you haven't already be sure to check out some of my favorite futures and awards. So time to lace them up and get ready to ride with Betzky for my favorite NHL best bets of the day.

1.  Yefor Chinakov Point +125 on Lucky Rebel:

Yegor Chinakov has been a welcome addition to the Penguins

Yegor Chinakov has been a welcome addition to the Penguins

Some players just need to find the right home. And the talented winger, Yegor Chinakov, seems to found the dream home in Pittsburgh. He has been a welcome addition of skill to the Penguins top 6 and is playing on a line with fellow Russian Evgani Malkin. Chinakhov has 13 points on the season (8G, 5A), and his January production has been spiky in a good way—he's popped goals/points multiple times this month in limited-but-efficient usage. And with Bryan Rust suspended, Pittsburgh's forward group is reshuffling in a way that can concentrate opportunity through the top two lines rather than spreading it out evenly.

That means Chinakov has moved up to the top power play unit tonight, while also playing with the red hot Malkin. Chicago enters this game on a skid, and their 5v5 results/process have been shaky—enough that local game preview coverage has specifically called out their struggles at even strength.
That's relevant because Chinakhov's point path doesn't have to be power-play dependent (and Chicago's PK has actually been strong). If Pittsburgh is carrying play at 5v5 and generating a normal scoring night, Chinakhov can get there off a secondary assist, a rush goal, or even a simple touch on a Malkin finish.

And at +120 we are essentially getting an overlooked name, playing in the top 6 of a strong offense at a heavily discounted price. Add it all up and it is easy to see why Yegor Chinakov point is an NHL best bet.

2. Beckett Senneck o2.5 SOG +120 on Lucky Rebel:

Beckett Sennecke has been a great fit for the Anaheim Ducks

Beckett Sennecke has been a great fit for the Anaheim Ducks

The surprise 3rd overall pick in 2024, is making his case to win the Calder trophy for rookie of the year. He is tied with Montreal winger Ivan Demidov for most points by a rookie, and has been displaying heroics as of late, helping the Anaheim Ducks win in a big overtime game against the Calgary Flames. But we aren't talking about points here, we are talking SOGS.

Sennecke is clearly feeling himself. Sennecke's shot distribution lately is exactly what you want for a 2.5 line: he's had multiple 4–6 shot games in January, and just put 7 SOG on Edmonton on Jan. 26 while playing 25:31 (massive TOI for a rookie). This is a HUGE spike from his first half of the season where he was still adjusting to the big leagues. That has also garnered him a promotion to the Ducks top line, which means more TOI. At plus money this already looks like an NHL best bet.

But the matchup is the true cherry on top. Vancouver has allowed 29.85 shots against per game this season, and that number has climbed to 31.5 shots against per game over their last 10. That tops the league over the last 10 games, meaning Vancouver is allowing the most shots against in the league. That's the kind of environment where a top-six winger can get to 3+ shots without needing perfect game script.

3. Brock Nelson o2.5 SOG +105 on Lucky Rebel:

Brock Nelson gets to face an opponent he loves shooting against, the Montreal Canadiens

Brock Nelson gets to face an opponent he loves shooting against, the Montreal Canadiens

Some dudes just love to beat up on certain teams, and Brock Nelson has had an affinity in ripping rubber against the Montreal Canadiens. That may be needed tonight as the dominent Colorado Avalanche have been slumping lately, only winning 2 of their last 7 games. Nelson has been actively firing pucks this season — averaging about 2.3 shots per game — and in recent stretches he's elevated that rate. Over his last 5 games he's recorded 18 shots, and over 10 games he's taken 29 shots, a pace that comfortably clears a 2.5 mark if normal usage continues.

Nelson is locked into the Avalanche offense right now, including a hat trick performance just days ago that highlights his confidence and shooting aggressiveness. As a top-six forward and power-play contributor for Colorado, Nelson consistently sees enough opportunities to generate shots even in tighter defensive matchups.

While Montreal has become much better at shot suppression, the Avalanche should be very motivated to get a win. And Nelson's history against the Canadiens should come into play tonight. He has hit his 2.5 SOG prop in 6 of the last 10 games (all of which had 4+ SOG) and against the Canadiens he has hit in 8 of the last 10 games. He averages 6.2 shot attempts in those games, which is much higher than his recent 4.6 shot attempt average. The man gets motivated playing against the Canadiens and that's exactly why this discounted prop is one of my NHL best bets.
