Tonight in Las Vegas the Golden Knights host the Colorado Avalanche as the regular season trickles to a close. There are just a few remaining games in the regular season, but both of these teams still have plenty to play for tonight as far as playoff seeding goes.
Both teams are locked in to the post season, but could move up some spots before it begins.
The Avalanche are currently 3rd in the Central Division, 2 points behind Winnipeg after losing to them yesterday, 7-0. Colorado has this game tonight and one more, while the Jets have two more on their schedule. Although the Avs don't control their own destiny, they could catch the Jets and snag the 2 seed in the Central, securing home ice for that series.
The Golden Knights are 4th in the Pacific sitting with 94 points and 3 games to play. They are 3 points behind the Kings who have just two games left, and are 5 points behind the Predators for the 1st Wild Card spot. The Preds just have one game left, and with the loss and a VGK sweep to end the regular season, the Knights would pass Nashville in wild card seeding, and possibly even knock down the Kings in their own division.
Plenty of hypotheticals, but the point is, we should have a great game tonight!

Do We Back VGK as a Short Home Favorite?

Both of these teams are significantly better at home. It goes both ways.
The Knights are 25-11-2 at home while being 18-17-2 on the road. The Avalanche splits are even more extreme. Colorado is 30-9-1 in Ball Arena while posting a 19-16-5 record away from home.
Both could be considered "Home Ice" Merchants, if you will.
Point being, I think I've gotta lean with the Stanley Cup Champions.
The Avalanche are essentially just playing for home ice against the Jets, but I bet the Avs are confident enough to know they can beat Winnipeg in less than 7 games. Regardless, the Knights have more on the line in my opinion.
The Golden Knights opponent is still up in the air, and they could essentially end up playing any of the following teams in the 1st round.
- Dallas Stars
- Vancouver Canucks
- Edmonton Oilers
If I were the Knights, I'd not worry too much about my playoff opponent, and just buckle down and win the three remaining games.

I am a big VGK bettor, but I also have a soft spot for the Avs. Tonight at home we're taking VGK in reg and making sure they get it done.
The Avalanche got smacked by the Jets at home yesterday, 7-0. A loss like that going into the playoffs can be very demoralizing for a team. I think Colorado shines fine in the playoffs, however tonight it will be tough to pick up their spirits and bring their all.
While the Avalanche have the highest scoring offense in the NHL, Adin Hill ranks 11th in save percentage stopping over 91% of shots faced. Logan Thompson is also 21st in the league with a .907 save percentage.
Alexander Georgiev for Colorado is all the way down at 37th in the NHL, posting a .898.
I think both offenses come to play with the home team pulling out on top.
