Before Monday Night Football between the Niners and Colts this evening, there is some afternoon football on the college gridiron. Bowl season continues on Monday afternoon in Idaho, as the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl takes place at Albertons Stadium in Boise. The Washington State Cougars take on the Utah State Aggies to keep us all entertaining during this short week of work. Let's get right into our picks for this midday sweat!

Washington State vs. Utah State Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Insights
Tony Freeman leads the Cougars with 51 catches this season and three receiving touchdowns
Both teams finished the season 6-6, and both were .500 in conference play. The Aggies went 4-4 in the Mountain West Conference, while the Cougars split their two game series with the Oregon State Beavers, thus going 1-1 in the two team PAC-12. Hilarious, I know. Both teams also played two ranked opponents, and the Cougars competed much better in those games.
Washington State played Ole Miss and Virginia on the road in back to back weeks, losing those two games by a combined five points. They also dropped a game late in the season to James Madison, who we know is good enough to make the College Football Playoff. As for the Aggies, they were blown out by Texas A&M and Vanderbilt when they faced those two SEC schools, losing by 22 as the closet margin of victory. Can they turn things around?

Washington State's head coach has taken the job in Ames, and will not be with the team going forward. Instead, DC Jesse Bobbit will be in charge. He initially wasn't going to let players entering the portal play, but that has since changed. Plus, CB Kenny Worthy and backup QB Jaxson Potter probably would have been fine to begin with. But they will be without their leading rusher, Kirby Vorhees.

Washington State vs. Utah State Prediction: Washington State Wins and Covers, Under 49.5
Best Bet: Washington State/Utah State Under 49 (-110) Lucky Rebel Sportsbook
Back the under with me this afternoon. Washington State is 9-3 to the under this season, and have stayed under the total in eight straight as well. The Aggies are the same way. They are 7-5 to the under but have hit in five of their last six, and three straight down the stretch. I don't necessarily trust either offense to score.
The Aggies are third worst in the country at converting on third downs, while the Cougars are top 30 at stopping teams from doing so. But, Washington State is north of 85 in moving the chains on their last chance. Offensively, the Cougars are north of 100 in yards per game and rank No. 95 in points per game. Even though we will have the blue turf to entertain us while watching this game, the football on the field might not get us as excited. I think we see a boring, sluggish, more stereotypical bowl game here, as society shifts it's focus completely onto the College Football Playoff at this point.
While the Cougars offense won't help them score, the defense will keep them in this game. Wazzu is a top 30 team in terms of points allowed, and top 20 in yards allowed, and they get to the quarterback a ton. If the Cougars want to win this game, which I think they are capable of doing, they will need to seriously slow down the Aggies offense to give their own a chance at keeping up.
