The MAC and ACC meet in sunny Boca Raton on Tuesday afternoon as bowl season continues. Both 8-4 teams are looking to end their season on a high note. The Rockets are screaming into this matchup on a four game winning streak, but will it matter against a Power Four opponent? Could Louisville give them the business early and often? Let's get into our favorite picks below to find out.

Tucker Gleason is likely out for this bowl game against Louisville - Toledo Louisville Picks

Tucker Gleason is likely out for this bowl game against Louisville

The Toledo Rockets will be missing tons of defenders. Starting DE Malachi Davis who led the team in sacks, along with safety Braden Awls and LB Chris D'Appolonia are all hitting the portal, and none are expected to play. Add starting left tackle Stephen Gales to that list as well. There are tons of other potential opt outs in line, including their other safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren. The senior is projected to be an early round draft pick, and is nursing an injury which could lead to him being on the bench.

Plus, their starting quarterback Tucker Gleason is doubtful, leaving Kalieb Osborne to take the snaps and lead this offense against just the second Power Four opponent they've seen all year. The Rockets lost 24-16 to Kentucky on the road in Week 1, while Louisville beat that same Wildcats team 41-0 in their last game of the season. Miller Moss will play, but the Cardinals are dealing with some injuries at running back.

They will also miss two starting defensive linemen, but the unit as a whole should be completely fine.

Toledo vs. Louisville Prediction: Louisville Wins and Covers, Over 44

Best Bet: Louisville -8 (-110) Lucky Rebel Sportsbook

There are some 7.5s out there which is what I booked, but I don't think it matters. The Cardinals can win this game by double digits with ease and I've put two units on the spread to show I believe. Osborne has thrown just 24 pass attempts for Toledo all season long. Sure, he's more of a dual threat guy anyways, and Toledo runs the ball nearly 53% of the time, but they simply won't be able to move the ball efficiently enough to keep up with the Cardinals' offense.

Toledo ranks No. 59 in third down conversions, and are bottom 12 in red zone scoring percentage. The Cardinals' defense is top 25 in yards per carry allowed, and top 20 in rushing yards allowed per game. They also rank top 30 in points per game allowed, top 20 in yards per game allowed, and are No. 23 in third down conversions. Despite an offense that has their struggles, Louisville will be able to flex their muscle.

How have the other bowl games gone with Power Four teams playing G5 opponents?

Power Four vs. G5 Bowl Game Results

  • Washington beat Boise State 38-10, Covered 10 point spread.
  • NC State beat Memphis 31-7. Covered 3.5 point spread.
  • Oregon beat James Madison 51-34. Pushed 21 point spread.
  • Ole Miss beat Tulane 41-10. Covered 17.5 point spread.

Are you noticing a trend? I love the G5 schools, but it is simply too tough for them to keep up with the Power Four schools in terms of talent thanks to NIL. The bigger schools have MUCH bigger pockets, and I see Louisville showing the Rockets who's boss on Tuesday afternoon.

If you need some extra motivation, this is a 2U play for me. I am not worried about the hook at all. We have quite the record on these wagers that don't come around often.

  • 2U Plays All Time (Last Five Years)
  • 50-28-1 (64.1%)
  • +36.59u

And it's even better in college football, as a bulk of that success has come on the college gridiron.

  • NCAA Football 2U Plays All Time
  • 16-3 (84.2%)
  • +24.51u

Let's add another as we finish the work week before the holiday.
