The second round of the College Football Playoff is almost here, and the futures board is telling an interesting story. A few prices have moved, some teams still feel wildly mispriced, and the usual favorites are not all earning my trust. I am not rushing to the window on the obvious names, but there are two teams near the bottom of the board that keep standing out for all the right reasons. The paths matter, the prices matter, and not everyone is built for this stage. Let us dig into where the value actually lives as the playoff unfolds.

National Champion Insights

With the second round of the College Football Playoff kicking off in a few days, this is a great time to check in on how the odds have moved to win it all. At first glance, not much has changed. Texas Tech has shortened from +750 to +700, which has slightly bumped Oregon down the board. Miami still sits ahead of Alabama and Ole Miss at 16 to one. I do not get it.

Where is the value?

I still firmly believe that if you like Ohio State, Indiana, or Georgia, patience is the better move. I am not racing to the window to bet anything shorter than five to one. Yes, these are likely the best numbers you will see, but I would rather wait.

I mentioned in last week's article that I took Ohio State to win it all at -120. The reasoning was simple. I believed they were the best team in the country, and by betting them before the Texas game, I was effectively paying for their moneyline against Texas and Notre Dame. That cancels out the spread across two games. I do not mind laying juice when the path is clear, and I still stand by that approach.

The Tide?

That same logic applies to my stance on Alabama and Ole Miss from last week. They are the two longest shots on the board, but they also offer the most value. I will not be adding more Alabama futures, since I already hold a ten to one ticket from before the season, but I love their path to the national championship game.

I have a ton of respect for this Indiana team, but I would not be shocked if Alabama keeps that game tight on New Years Day. The Crimson Tide have been tested over and over this season. Yes, they were embarrassed in the SEC Championship and came back down 17 on the road in Norman. Still, there is an argument that Indiana beating Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship was their Super Bowl. Ohio State was coming off their own Super Bowl win over Michigan and was not fully locked in for that game.

If Alabama gets past Indiana, they would face either Texas Tech or Oregon. I am not a believer in the Red Raiders yet, I need to see it first. The same goes for the Ducks. If the Tide advance past either of those teams, they are in the national championship game, and at that point a hedge is always an option. At the current price, Alabama is not a bad look to win it all.

The Rebels?

On the other side of the bracket, Ole Miss is the team I keep circling, and I am already involved. I grabbed the Rebels +7 in the next round against Georgia. I will have a full game write up coming, but this sets up as a massive revenge spot. Ole Miss should have beaten Georgia on the road back in October. If they pull the upset, the question becomes whether they can go toe to toe with Ohio State, who deserves to be the odds leader. How long can the Rebels ride the motivation of sticking it to Lane?

Right now, the only teams truly grabbing me to win it all are, surprisingly, the two teams at the bottom of the odds board. Georgia, Oregon, Texas Tech, and Miami do nothing for me at the moment. There is something about Georgia that I do not trust, it feels like they have coasted all season, though I will keep monitoring them. Oregon and Texas Tech, prove it. Miami, please. For now, I stand by what I have said for the last two weeks. Give me Hotty Toddy and the Tide.
