This afternoon, we are backing a bat that has been cold this series, but is due to bounce back against a left handed arm.
That bat? Teoscar Hernandez, who is 0-for-7 over the last two games. He also happens to be the lone Dodger with an elite rating on Batters-Box. In 29 home games with an elite rating, Hernandez records a hit 79% of the time, hits a home run 31% of the time, and clears this prop 44% of the time. Not the most consistent number for total bases, but I think we will be just fine. Against left handed pitching at home over the last two seasons, he is batting .296 with a .606 slugging percentage and a .996 OPS.
David Peterson is on the mound this afternoon for the Mets. The left hander owns a poor average hitter matchup wOBA and ISO, per Batters-Box. He has struggled against right handed hitters this season. In 1,867 at-bats, opponents are hitting .332 with a .711 OPS.
Peterson just faced the Dodgers on May 24. He went 7.2 innings, allowed two runs on five hits, and struck out seven. But back in October, the Dodgers got to him for 10 hits and five runs in six innings. I think this is a great spot for Hernandez, who matches up extremely well against the left hander's arsenal. We are getting a great price at even money for two bases. Give it to me.
