We only care about one bat in this spot—and that is Jose Ramirez, because we are riding his total bases prop. One thing about Ramirez: he loves hitting left-handed pitchers, and he loves playing on the road. Since 2023, he has posted a .308 average, .584 slugging percentage, and .944 OPS in those situations.
He enters today with an elite rating on Batters-Box and brings some fantastic trends. In 36 games with an elite rating, he records a hit 77% of the time, two or more hits 33%, and goes over this prop 50%.
Today, the Guardians slugger faces Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon, who has stepped up in a big way for New York. With a 2.60 ERA and 0.94 WHIP, the 32-year-old has found his rhythm early in the season. Still, he carries a poorly rated matchup ISO and ground ball rate.
Rodon leans heavily on his fastball, throwing it 41% of the time. Against that pitch, Ramirez has been elite—posting a run value of seven, a .347 xBA, .621 xSLG, and .421 xwOBA, according to Baseball Savant. That is not the only weapon in Rodon's arsenal that Ramirez handles well—he owns incredible numbers against all four of his secondary pitches as well.
That is exactly why I am ignoring how strong Rodon has been this season. I believe he slips once today, and it will be against one of the hottest bats in baseball over the past 30 days.
