Padres starter Randy Vasquez has struggled against quality lineups, and this left-handed-heavy Dodgers squad is built to punish his profile. Desperate for a win in this series, the Dodgers are in a prime spot to bounce back this afternoon against Padres right-hander Randy Vasquez. The starter enters with a poor rating on Batters-Box, including a poor-average hitter matchup wOBA, ISO, hard contact, strikeout percentage, and ground ball percentage. He is allowing nearly 40% hard contact to opposing hitters.
While his home ERA looks better on the surface, the context is weak—he has yet to face a quality offense. In his last home start, the Pirates tagged him for four runs on six hits in just 3.1 innings. The outing before that? The Marlins hung three runs on six hits across 6.1 innings. The best lineup he has faced at home this year was the Cubs, who still racked up seven hits.
Los Angeles rolls out a heavy left-handed lineup this afternoon, with Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, and Dalton Rushing all rated elite today. Left-handed hitters are batting .287 with an .897 OPS against Vasquez, and this is not the group to mess around with. The Dodgers also have only one bat above the league strikeout rate and just three above the league average ground ball rate in this matchup.
San Diego ranks eighth in fewest first-five runs allowed at home, giving up under two per game. However, the Dodgers lead MLB in first-five runs scored on the road, averaging over three. With urgency at a high, this is not the spot to isolate one prop—it is the time to back the full lineup to show up and produce.
