Bailey Ober gets the nod at home tonight against the Blue Jays - Blue Jays Twins Picks

These teams are trending in opposite directions, as Toronto has won four of its past five, while Minnesota has dropped four of its last five games.

Still, the Twins shouldn't be considered an easy out, considering who they have taking the mound in 30-year-old right-hander Bailey Ober, who owns a 2-1 record and a 3.94 ERA through six starts and 32 innings of work.

There's a lot to like about Ober's game right now – his 8% HR/FB rate, .256 BABIP, 1.16 WHIP and a minimal hard-hit rate of 31%.

It's not all breezy with Bailey, though, there are some concerns. His SIERA (Skill Interactive ERA) is 4.30, his xFIP is 4.35, he's not generating a ton of ground balls, has a low left-on-base rate of 69% and features just a 12% strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Could some regression be looming for Ober? Sure. It's nothing overly alarming, but it's worth noting against a Toronto offense that's heating up against right-handers. Over the past week, the Blue Jays have posted a 126 wRC+, .812 OPS and a .204 ISO against righties – a major jump from their month-long marks of an 87 wRC+, .677 OPS and a .128 ISO.

The Twins have seen a slight bump against righties as well. Over the past week, they've logged 231 plate appearances and are posting a 109 wRC+, .738 OPS and a .146 ISO. Those numbers aren't as strong as Toronto's, but it's a step in the right direction for a slumping squad.

The question is whether they can keep improving against a stud in Kevin Gausman. Through six starts, Gausman is 2-1 with a 2.57 ERA and a 2.81 xFIP. There's not much to dislike, as he owns a .264 BABIP, a 44% ground-ball rate and has kept his HR/FB ratio under 10%. He also carries a 0.94 WHIP, a 23.2% K-BB rate and a 2.97 SIERA.

It's no surprise to see Toronto listed as the favorite tonight.

Blue Jays vs Twins Prediction

It's difficult to look at all these numbers and not shift my betting attention toward the road team.

Toronto has a slight advantage on the bump and has clearly been the hotter team at the plate. It's going to be a chillier night at Target Field, with temperatures in the low 50s. I'd rather put my trust in the more reliable arm and the lineup with greater power upside, which leads me toward laying the -132 moneyline with the Blue Jays.
