The Oscars 2026: Will it be Michael B. Jordan or Timothee Chalamet?

It'll be a black tie affair tomorrow at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles. The ceremony will be airing live on ABC and streaming on Hulu at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. Fiery redheaded comedian Conan O'Brien returns to host back-to-back shows.

Most years many of these categories are not worth betting. However, this year appears to be different. Even with Amy Madigan as the favourite for Supporting Actress it still feels like Teyana Taylor has a real chance for the upset. There are several categories that carry similar feels. March Movie Madness anyone? Let's talk film.

Actor in a Leading Role

• Michael B. Jordan for Sinners (-155)

• Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another (+1000)
• Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent (+1000)
• Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon (+3300)

This feels like an award that features the holy trinity of the future of Western mainstream cinema. DiCaprio is the elder, the one with aura and the one they all look to as measurement of themselves. There's Michael too. Everyone wants to be like Mike. Broad appeal, impressive collaborator and impactful physically just as much as emotionally. Then there is Chalamet. Timothee is the new kid but he's not shy. He's letting everyone know he does things differently but ultimately wants to become great like those before him.

In hindsight, many years from now, cinephiles may look back on this as one of the most consequential awards race in recent memory. Chalamet was the favourite before 'Marty Supreme' even released. Then he was a heavy, heavy favourite. Now? Jordan won the Actor Award in the category and odds have seismically shifted. If you're going to place a wager in any category then it should be this one. It has film nerds everywhere in spasms.

I'll likely sprinkle on Leonardo DiCaprio for the immense upset. It's already been a decade since he won his long awaited first award for 'The Revenant' in 2016. Voters might be turned off by all of Chalamet's campaign antics and many people have expressed that Sinners is overrated. Furthermore, I just think the character of Bob is going to stand the test of time.

Leonardo DiCaprio has played a spy who steals dreams, he plays men who have millions and he is a heartthrob. Bob is a bumbling father who just wants to do right by his daughter in an unfair world. It is one of his most relatable roles. The Revenant was similarly about a father seeking revenge after his son is killed. Perhaps, he can win again playing a father who will stop at nothing.

"No fear, Bob. Just like Tom Cruise."

The Oscars: Best Picture

• One Battle After Another (-325)
• Sinners (+250)
• Hamnet (+2200)
• Marty Supreme (+6000)
• Sentimental Value (+11000)
• Others Priced (+40000) & Above

This is another category that seems a little more open than perhaps the odds would suggest. Ryan Coogler's vampire drama has the most nominations in the history of the awards show. Even more than Titanic or Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. That means something. Sinners should win awards outside of just the technical ones. It could definitely upset here.

Also, Sinners could upset One Battle After Another in the cinematography category or even the directing category.

One thing of note, shoutout Brad Pitt's F1, fantastic popcorn flick whose inclusion in the category was a very welcome surprise. The Oscars should not alienate the mainstream which they are very much accused of.
