Tuesday marked one of the most important nights of the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election. Democratic Party nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris took on Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump in a one-on-one debate, marking the first time that the two candidates had ever met.
As expected, the presidential debate lit up social media like a firestorm as Harris and Trump discussed topics ranging from immigration to abortion and everything in between. Of course, the night also featured several viral moments that you likely saw somewhere on social media unless you’re living under a rock.
Betting News has been covering the 2024 Presidential Election throughout the last several months, so let’s check in on how the odds are shaping up following last night’s Harris vs. Trump debate.
Presidential Election Odds 2024 Following Debate
U.S. Presidential Election odds are courtesy of BetOnline at 11:14 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
- Kamala Harris (-120)
- Donald Trump (+100)
- Other (+2500)
Even though many political experts are saying that Harris crushed Trump during the debate, oddsmakers clearly don’t think much has changed. Harris is currently the -120 favorite to become the next President of the United States, which is exactly where her odds sat following last month’s Democratic National Convention.
For those who are unaware, Harris’ -120 odds carry an implied win probability of 54.6%. At the same time, Trump’s +100 odds to win also remain unchanged.
It’ll be interesting to see how the odds shift following the fallout of the Harris vs. Trump debate. The general consensus is that Harris handled the situation well and even put the opposition on defense several times throughout the night. While Trump started off the debate strong when talking about the economy, he appeared to lose his composure after Harris mentioned his shrinking crowd sizes and the fact that he was “fired by 81 million people.”
Another blow was dealt to the Republican Party when global icon Taylor Swift announced her support for the Harris-Walz ticket following the debate. Considering how large the Swifties fanbase is, that type of support could totally shift the momentum in the election.
Having said that, there are still eight weeks until the election, meaning there’s plenty of time for things to change. The Vice Presidential Debate between Tim Walz and JD Vance is also right around the corner on Oct. 1, which could affect how oddsmakers view the election, too.
