Saskatchewan Extends SIGA Online Gaming Rights to 2029

Saskatchewan has extended the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority's (SIGA) exclusive online gaming rights through September 2029.

The province and the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) agreed to amend the Gaming Framework Agreement (GFA). As a result, SIGA will remain Saskatchewan's only authorized online gambling operator.

The extension strengthens the province's existing approach to regulated online gaming. It also gives SIGA greater certainty as its PlayNow platform continues to grow.

PlayNow launched in Saskatchewan in November 2022. Since then, the platform has become an important part of the province's regulated gaming market.

SIGA: PlayNow Delivers Strong Revenue Growth

SIGA reported strong growth for PlayNow during the 2025-26 fiscal year. The platform generated more than C$31 million in gross gaming revenue.

That figure represented a 23% increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, net iGaming revenue reached C$12.4 million, marking a 38% increase.

PlayNow also surpassed 59,000 registered users during the fiscal year. These results provide further support for Saskatchewan's decision to continue SIGA's exclusive online gaming arrangement.

The development also carries wider significance for Saskatchewan gambling. While several Canadian provinces have adopted competitive iGaming markets, Saskatchewan continues to operate a First Nations-led exclusive model.

Gaming Revenue Supports First Nations

The renewed agreement also highlights the economic role of gaming across Saskatchewan.

SIGA operates as a nonprofit gaming organization. Its revenue-sharing arrangements distribute gaming proceeds between Saskatchewan First Nations and the provincial government.

SIGA generated C$418 million in gross revenue during the 2025-26 fiscal year. It also returned C$167 million in net profit to the province.

Jeremy Harrison, Saskatchewan's Minister Responsible for Lotteries and Gaming, said the partnership supports communities across the province.

"Our government has built a successful gaming industry in Saskatchewan in partnership with the FSIN," Harrison said in a statement.

He added that the GFA supports First Nations employment and economic development. It also helps fund education, housing and other community priorities.

The agreement gives both the province and First Nations a financial interest in the gaming sector's continued success.

SIGA Expands Its Land-Based Gaming Operations

Saskatchewan also approved a gaming centre pilot at Flying Dust First Nation.

The facility can receive up to 49 slot machines under the new arrangement. It will form part of a broader commercial development featuring a hotel, conference centre and retail space.

The approval will increase SIGA's total slot-machine allocation to 2,619.

Therefore, the latest agreement extends beyond online gaming. It also supports additional First Nations economic development through land-based gaming.

What the Extension Means for Canada Gambling

The decision reinforces Saskatchewan's distinctive position within Canada gambling. SIGA will retain exclusive online gaming rights while PlayNow continues expanding its customer base.

At the same time, the regulated market still faces competition from offshore gambling platforms. Those operators remain a challenge for provincial regulators and authorized gaming providers.

For now, Saskatchewan has chosen continuity rather than a competitive online gaming model. The extension provides SIGA with three more years to develop PlayNow and strengthen its role.

The agreement also maintains the province's revenue-sharing structure with First Nations. As a result, Saskatchewan's existing online gaming framework will remain in place through September 2029.
