Pure Canadian Gaming has officially entered Alberta's regulated online gambling industry. The long-established casino operator has applied to participate in the province's newly launched competitive iGaming market.

The move marks a significant shift for one of Alberta's best-known gaming companies. Rather than remaining focused on retail casinos, Pure Canadian Gaming is expanding into digital gaming alongside other licensed operators.

The application also reflects broader changes across Alberta gambling. Since the province opened its market to private operators on July 13, traditional casino companies have begun adapting to growing demand for regulated online gaming.

The expansion also strengthens competition among Canada online casinos and Canada online sportsbooks as more local brands join the market.

Pure Canadian Gaming Embraces Digital Expansion

Pure Canadian Gaming has submitted its registration to the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC). After completing the regulatory process and signing a commercial agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation, the company can offer online casino games and sports betting through its new platform.

The operator views online gaming as an extension of its existing business rather than a replacement for its physical casinos. Company executives believe the digital platform gives customers another regulated way to enjoy the Pure Canadian Gaming brand.

Shortly before Alberta's market opened, the company also signed a multi-year agreement with Kambi Group plc. Under the partnership, Kambi supplies the sportsbook technology for PureCasino.ca while also powering the operator's retail sportsbooks. 

The agreement gives Pure Canadian Gaming an established sports betting platform as it expands into Alberta's regulated online market.

President and CEO Brad Belhouse acknowledged that Pure Canadian Gaming will compete against global gambling companies with much larger marketing budgets. Even so, he believes the company's local reputation remains its strongest advantage.

"We can't outspend the multinationals on Super Bowl ads. But we can beat them on trust and our commitment to Alberta. We were here before they arrived, and we'll be here long after the market settles."

That strategy differs from many international operators entering Alberta's competitive market. Instead of relying primarily on national advertising, Pure Canadian Gaming plans to build on decades of customer relationships established through its land-based casinos.

The company's expansion also shows that Alberta's regulatory framework appeals to both international operators and established local businesses. As more homegrown brands move online, Albertans gain additional regulated gaming options.

Pure Canadian Gaming Builds on Decades of Alberta Experience

Pure Canadian Gaming has served Alberta's gaming industry for decades. The company currently operates four casinos under the Pure Canadian Gaming brand in Edmonton, Calgary, and Lethbridge. Its parent company, Indigenous Gaming Partners, recently expanded its footprint by acquiring three additional casino properties, bringing its overall operational portfolio to seven locations.

Throughout its history, Pure Canadian Gaming has focused on serving local communities through gaming, dining, entertainment, and hospitality. That strong regional presence now supports its expansion into regulated online gaming.

Unlike many new entrants, the company already enjoys widespread brand recognition across Alberta. Management believes those long-standing customer relationships will help it compete as the province's online market grows.

The company's strategy also mirrors a broader North American trend. Many established casino operators now combine retail gaming with digital platforms to create connected customer experiences.

Alberta's iGaming Market Begins Its Next Chapter

Alberta officially launched its competitive iGaming market on July 13, ending Play Alberta's exclusive position as the province's only regulated online gambling platform. 

Licensed private operators now compete under a regulated framework that emphasizes consumer protection and responsible gambling.

Operators must complete provincial registration, sign commercial agreements, and meet ongoing regulatory requirements before offering services to players. Those measures aim to create a safer environment while encouraging players to choose regulated platforms over offshore websites.

Industry analysts expect Alberta to become Canada's second major regulated online gaming jurisdiction after Ontario. 

Several forecasts project annual online gaming revenue could eventually exceed CAD $700 million as regulated participation increases.

The broader Canadian market also continues to show strong momentum. Industry experts expect sustained growth for Canada online casinos and Canada online sportsbooks as more provinces modernize their gaming frameworks and consumers increasingly embrace regulated digital platforms.

For Pure Canadian Gaming, entering the online market represents more than business diversification. It demonstrates how an established Alberta operator is evolving to compete in both retail and digital gaming while maintaining the local identity that has defined its business for decades.
