The Ontario iGaming market continued its impressive growth in April 2026, delivering another strong month despite a slight decline in wagering activity from March.

According to the latest figures from iGaming Ontario, total gross gaming revenue reached CAD $405.4 million during the month. The result marked a 29% increase compared to April 2025. 

Meanwhile, operator revenue improved month over month, highlighting the market's continued maturity. The latest numbers reinforce Ontario's status as Canada's largest regulated online gambling market. They also demonstrate the sustained momentum behind the province's thriving iGaming sector.

Ontario players wagered approximately CAD $9.31 billion across regulated online casino, sports betting, and poker platforms in April. While that figure represented a modest decline from the record-setting activity seen in March, overall market performance remained robust.

Gross gaming revenue climbed to CAD $405.4 million, up from CAD $387 million in March. The increase represents a 4.7% month-over-month gain and a 29% rise compared to April 2025.

The strong revenue performance suggests operators benefited from improved hold rates across several verticals. At the same time, player engagement remained healthy throughout the market.

Online casinos continued to generate the largest share of revenue. Sports betting also produced an impressive performance despite lower betting volume.

The results demonstrate the maturity of Ontario's regulated ecosystem. Since launching in April 2022, the market has attracted dozens of licensed operators and hundreds of gaming sites.

Canada Online Casinos Remain the Primary Revenue Driver

Canada online casinos once again powered Ontario's iGaming industry during April.

Casino wagers exceeded CAD $8.14 billion during the month, making it the fourth-highest monthly total ever recorded in the province. 

Although the figure declined slightly from March's record-setting levels, it remained exceptionally strong by historical standards.

The casino segment generated approximately CAD $314.1 million in revenue. That total accounted for more than 77% of all operator revenue reported during April. 

Online slots continued to drive the majority of wagering activity. Meanwhile, digital table games and live dealer offerings maintained strong player demand across the province.

The sustained performance of Canada online casinos reflects the segment's broad appeal among players. It also highlights the effectiveness of Ontario's regulated framework in attracting both operators and consumers.

Even with wagering activity cooling slightly from March, casino revenue remained the dominant force behind Ontario's overall market growth.

Online Sportsbooks Post Significant Revenue Gains

Canada online sportsbooks produced one of the most notable stories from April's market report. Sports betting handle reached approximately CAD $1.04 billion during the month. While that figure fell roughly 3% compared to March, sportsbook operators delivered substantially stronger revenue results.

Revenue from sports wagering surged to CAD $86 million in April. The total ballooned by approximately 40% compared to March and accounted for 21% of the market's total revenue share.

The increase suggests sportsbooks benefited from stronger margins and favorable betting outcomes throughout the month. As a result, revenue growth significantly outpaced wagering activity.

Moreover, the performance demonstrates how sportsbook earnings do not always move in line with betting volume. Instead, hold percentages and event outcomes often play a major role in determining monthly revenue.

Poker generated the remaining share of market activity, contributing approximately CAD $128 million in wagers and about CAD $5.3 million in revenue.

Ontario Gambling Continues to Lead Canada's Regulated Market

Ontario gambling remains the benchmark for regulated online gaming in Canada. The province launched its competitive iGaming market in 2022. Since then, regulators have established a framework that balances consumer protection, operator participation, and sustainable revenue growth.

Today, Ontario is home to the country's largest regulated online gambling market. The province consistently attracts major international operators while providing players with a secure environment.

Strong regulatory oversight has helped build consumer confidence. In addition, a growing selection of gaming products continues to attract new customers and retain existing players.
