Carryover Bills from Previous Sessions

Several bills carried over from prior sessions continue to shape the conversation. HB 1308 focuses on sports betting, proposing a regulated market for online sportsbooks. This measure seeks to capitalize on growing interest in sports betting while keeping revenue within Hawaii.

SB 893, often referred to as the Aloha Stadium Casino proposal, explores the possibility of a full-scale casino near the stadium. Lawmakers are examining potential economic impacts, job creation, and local community benefits.

Meanwhile, HB 1434 and SB 1507 seek to address the establishment of a lottery and gaming corporation. These bills aim to centralize and modernize Hawaii gambling operations, providing a legal structure for online casinos and other regulated games, while ensuring state oversight.

Local Lawmakers Highlight Regulation Talks 

Lawmakers have highlighted that these discussions are driven by both economic considerations and the need to curb illegal gambling. Hawaii's underground market, valued at hundreds of millions of dollars, demonstrates the demand for regulated options. 

By revisiting these bills, the state hopes to create a safer and more profitable gambling environment.

As debates continue, Hawaii gambling remains a contentious issue, balancing potential revenue from US online casinos and sportsbooks with the desire to protect residents from unregulated markets.
