Six straight stakes turn the second half of this Belmont Park card into a serious test of pace, class, and restraint. My strongest opinion comes in the first of them.
My Belmont Park picks today cover all eight races on Thursday, October 1, beginning with the scheduled 2:10 p.m. ET first post. The card changes character after two allowance races: six consecutive stakes follow, including the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, and several of the turf contests are tight enough that trip may matter as much as reputation. R Disaster gives me my clearest early opinion in the Gallant Bloom, while the Winter Memories, Belmont Turf Sprint, and Joe Hirsch demand more caution because the leading chances sit close together. These selections remain preliminary until scratches, track conditions, surface assignments, and turf rails are official, and I will check the live price before treating any opinion as a bet. Follow the evolving Belmont card and entries, browse more horse-racing picks and analysis, and, when the official information is in hand, review the BetOnline racing board.
Race 1: Lovely Christina Can Let the Speed Sort Itself Out
My Pick: #6 Lovely Christina (Morning line: 7-2)
I give Lovely Christina the narrow edge in an opener where several fillies want to be involved from the break. Pleasant Embrace, The Big Calhouna, and Mascara can make the first move, while Lovely Christina has enough tactical speed to stay close without having to win that argument. Her recent 75 and earlier 80 show that she can run a winning race at this level, and the protected allowance placement says the connections are giving her another chance to prove it. The new blinkers are the uncertainty: they could sharpen her focus, but they could also pull her into a fight I would rather see her avoid. I want Carmouche to secure a stalking lane, wait through the turn, and ask her after the speed has declared itself.
My alternative: #10 Celtic Dawn (Morning line: 6-1) has the speed to find position from the outside and gives Castellano choices before the turn. She also adds blinkers, so her winning path is more aggressive: break cleanly, avoid being hung wide, and get first run on the leaders.

Race 2: Jadorlinija Must Solve the Post Before the Race
My Pick: #12 Jadorlinija (Morning line: 5-1)
Jadorlinija is the most appealing improver in this route, but her outside draw makes the opening quarter-mile decisive. She has moved forward through recent figures of 75, 78, and 83, and she owns enough natural speed to cross over behind Higher Force and Kayla's Komet rather than getting stranded. If Santana can establish that position without using her too hard, I expect her to be the one pressing the issue when the race turns for home. Four starts leave some class questions unanswered, and the combination of the outside draw and several pace players can expose any mistake. I am backing the upside, not pretending the trip is automatic.
My alternative: #4 Nycon (Morning line: 7-2) offers the steadier route to contention. She can save ground, let the outside horses spend energy securing position, and come after them with a recent 84 that already fits this field.

Race 3: R Disaster Gets First Say in the Gallant Bloom
My Pick: #5 R Disaster (Morning line: 8-5)
R Disaster is my strongest opinion on the card because she can make the Gallant Bloom unfold on her terms. Her best recent effort earned a 103, and she is distinctly quicker early than the other likely pace players, Munnings Express and Paradise City. I expect Ortiz to put her in front or just off a rival who insists, then try to open the race before the deeper closers gather momentum. The hesitation is real: she steps up from Grade 3 company and enters off a 74, so I cannot simply assume her best race returns on command. Even with that concern, nobody else has the same ability to seize control before the bend, and that tactical edge makes her the horse I keep coming back to. This is a strong preliminary opinion rather than a confirmed wager; check the BetOnline horse-racing prices after the final card is known.
My alternative: #1 Senza Parole (Morning line: 9-5) has already shown that Grade 2 company belongs on her résumé, and she can sit behind the first exchange instead of participating in it. If R Disaster pays for her speed, Senza Parole is the rival I trust most to pick up the pieces and finish the job.
Race 4: Queen of Hawaii Needs the Leaders to Keep Moving
My Pick: #11 Queen of Hawaii (Ire) (Morning line: 6-1)
Queen of Hawaii gets my vote in the Winter Memories, but this is no place for false confidence. Peppermint Twist and Flowerhead should supply the early direction, with Alone Time also capable of keeping the race from turning into a procession. That is the picture Queen of Hawaii needs: settle outside, build momentum around the turn, and unleash the strongest late run in the field before the leaders get a chance to sprint away. Her recent 84 and 87 confirm that the class is within reach, and she has already faced company at least as demanding as this Grade 3. The danger is a soft middle half or traffic from the outside, either of which could leave her with too much to do.
My alternative: #8 Sister Troienne (Morning line: 7-2) can sit closer to the action and may get the cleaner first move. She has repeatedly run in the mid-80s at this level, although the long break introduces more readiness uncertainty than Queen of Hawaii carries.

Race 5: Waralo Has Speed to Burn and Pressure to Survive
My Pick: #6 Waralo (Morning line: 3-1)
Waralo is fast enough to win the Belmont Turf Sprint from the opening bell, but he is unlikely to be left alone. Jean Valjean can match him early, while Spirited Sol and Alogon have enough pace to keep the leaders from taking a breather. Waralo's recent 100 and 98 make him the most dangerous horse in that fight, and I want him asserting himself rather than waiting for a perfect seam that may never appear. The concern comes late: his best weapon is early speed, so sustained pressure can leave him vulnerable in the final furlong. This race is a fascinating tug-of-war between his ability to break the field apart and the stalkers' chance to let the duel soften him.
My alternative: #7 Twenty Six Black (Morning line: 2-1) is closely matched with Waralo but has the opposite winning trip. He can sit just behind the heat, tip out when the leaders shorten stride, and use his more balanced finish to take over late.
Race 6: Senior Officer Can Stalk the Vosburgh Fight
My Pick: #8 Senior Officer (Morning line: 2-1)
Senior Officer has the most complete profile in a Vosburgh loaded with horses who want forward position. Contrary Thinking and El Grande O should be prominent, and Buttah adds another reason to expect the pace to stay honest rather than settle. Senior Officer can track that group without being buried in it, and his last four figures-97, 100, 99, and 96-say he does not need a career-best performance to win. Proven Grade 1 experience also gives him a class foundation that several rivals still have to establish. The risk is crowding: if Prat gets pulled into the battle too soon, Senior Officer loses the patience that makes him attractive.
My alternative: #1 T Kraft (Morning line: 6-1) can save ground and follow the speed from the inside. He owns back-to-back 97-level efforts and has enough tactical range to attack first if the leaders begin to separate from the deeper runners.
The Cox-Prat pairing supports my Senior Officer view without deciding it; readers can compare the broader evidence in the trainer statistics and jockey database. If the final board makes the race worth pursuing, visit BetOnline's tracked racebook after checking the official changes.
Race 7: Pride of Arras Brings the Upside to a Three-Way Classic
My Pick: #4 Pride of Arras (Ire) (Morning line: 7-2)
Pride of Arras is the upside choice in the Joe Hirsch, not the comfortable one. His European form suggests he has the ability to win a Grade 1 like this, but his exact tactical place in an American mile-and-a-half race is less certain than it is for the established local runners. I want Ryan to have him relaxed and within striking distance before the long finish begins, because giving too much ground to proven stayers would turn promise into a difficult chase. El Cordobes has already delivered at this class and distance, while Far Bridge makes the race a legitimate three-way contest rather than a place to force a single opinion. Pride of Arras gets the top line because his ceiling is compelling, but he must translate that promise to a configuration and trip he has not yet demonstrated here.
My alternative: #1 El Cordobes (Ire) (Morning line: 2-1) is the proven anchor, with recent figures of 104, 101, and 105 over the right kind of trip. He will do his best work late and should relish the distance, though he needs enough movement ahead of him to avoid turning the stretch into a sprint.

Race 8: Kathynmarissa Can Have the Last Word
My Pick: #9 Kathynmarissa (Morning line: 7-5)
Kathynmarissa is the mare I want finishing the Flower Bowl. Sunlit Uplands is the clearest source of early pace, with Opulent Restraint positioned to keep the leader from getting completely comfortable, and that gives Kathynmarissa a target as the field begins to stretch out. She has held strong form through recent figures of 99, 95, 96, and 95, and her best work comes after other horses have started to feel the distance. Brown and Ortiz add confidence that she will be allowed to find her rhythm before making one sustained run. She is stepping up from Grade 3 company, however, and still has to prove that her finish carries cleanly through this exact mile-and-a-quarter assignment.
My alternative: #3 Sunlit Uplands (Ire) (Morning line: 6-1) can turn the race into a very different test by controlling it from the start. Her 95 in her lone recent U.S. line fits, but the limited local evidence and unproven exact distance make her harder to trust if she faces pressure.
My Bottom Line: Pace Makes the Picks and the Price Makes the Bet
R Disaster is my strongest Belmont Park opinion because her speed gives her the first chance to shape the Gallant Bloom, but I still need the final board before calling her a play. I see the Winter Memories and Joe Hirsch as genuine coverage races, while Waralo against Twenty Six Black is the card's cleanest clash between raw speed and a stalking finish. Because this analysis is preliminary, I will recheck scratches, surfaces, conditions, and rails at the BettingNews Belmont page and compare the early results with the track-bias tool. Once those facts are settled, open the BetOnline racing menu and decide whether the live Belmont Park odds justify action rather than betting the names alone.

Simon Dupuis grew up in Montreal with harness racing in his blood. Saturday nights with his father at “Blue Bonnets” watching the standardbreds go, long before he ever placed a bet of his own. Though he loved the sport and the time with his dad, what really fascinated him were the numbers behind it. While other kids were memorizing driver names, Simon was already trying to figure out why the morning line never quite matched the real odds or the eventual winner. That love of numbers followed him to college where he studied statistics, in part because he wanted to bring real rigor to handicapping. After a few years in the banking sector, Simon made the jump and turned that statistical training into a full-time profession, building models that treat every card as a probability problem that can turn into cold hard cash.
