After Cam Young won another event last week at the Cadillac Championship, helping us cash our 13/1 ticket, the PGA Tour heads to Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, for the Truist Championship, where another signature no-cut event will take place.

Nearly every eligible top-35 player in the Official World Golf Ranking is in the field, with the exceptions of Scottie Scheffler, Russell Henley and Shane Lowry. This week features another long, difficult track where most of the game's best will battle over the next four days. Let's take a closer look at how Quail Hollow shapes up with my Truist Championship odds, preview and picks.

Quail Hollow Course Preview

Quail Hollow

Par: 71
Yardage: 7,583 (3rd longest)
Difficulty: 7th toughest
Fairways: Bermuda/Ryegrass (17th narrowest)
Rough: Ryegrass, overseed (2 inches, short length)
Greens: Bermuda/Poa Trivialis (17th largest, fast and firm)
Bunkers: 61 (12th fewest)
Water in Play: 6 holes (15th most)

Quail Hollow Club has consistently been one of the tougher stops on the PGA Tour schedule, and this week should be no different. Stretching over 7,500 yards, the layout forces players to handle a blend of length, precision and difficult scoring conditions from the opening tee shot to the final putt.

While there are a few opportunities to attack, namely the three par 5s and a pair of short par 4s, most of the course is built to punish mistakes. Eleven par 4s make up the bulk of the test, with five stretching beyond 480 yards, putting a major emphasis on driving distance and long-iron play.

Off the tee, Quail Hollow heavily rewards power, but only when paired with control. Fairways are narrow by TOUR standards, doglegs force players to shape shots in both directions and water hazards come into play on multiple holes. Nearly every winner here over the last decade has entered the week ranking highly in driving distance, which is no coincidence considering more than 55% of approach shots come from beyond 175 yards.

From there, the challenge only ramps up around the greens. Firm putting surfaces, shaved runoff areas and false fronts make scrambling uncomfortable, while fast Bermuda/Poa trivialis greens create one of the tougher putting tests players will see all season.

Overall, Quail Hollow tends to reward elite ball-strikers who can drive it long, handle difficult approach shots and avoid costly mistakes throughout "The Green Mile," one of the toughest finishing stretches in golf.

When building my model this week, the focus starts with driving distance, SG: APP, SG: PUTT and proximity from 175-plus yards. From there, I'm weighing SG: Par 4 scoring on difficult setups, good drive percentage, scrambling, bogey avoidance, birdie-or-better percentage and three-putt avoidance.

Truist Championship Picks

NOTE: A quarter unit is allocated to outright plays and a full unit on the top finishing positions, which are including ties unless stated otherwise, and head-to-head wagers.

As always, be sure to shop around for the best numbers, as PGA odds can vary significantly from book to book.

Xander Schauffele: To Win (+1125) | Top 10 (+109)

While it's not always sexy to take a golfer at a shorter price like +1125, when it's a player of Xander Schauffele's caliber, it's easy to understand why that wager can be justified.

In his last four outings, Schauffele has finished third at THE PLAYERS Championship, T-4 at the Valspar Championship, T-9 at the Masters Tournament and T-12 at the RBC Heritage.

He's also played great golf at Quail Hollow Club, posting a +1.79 True SG mark along with runner-up finishes in both 2023 and 2024.

Schauffele ranks third in my model this week, led by a first-place ranking in SG: APP over the past couple of years on courses where gaining strokes on approach shots is extremely difficult. He also ranks second in both SG: TOT on long, difficult courses and bogey avoidance. Additionally, he sits 12th in SG: Par 4 scoring and driving distance, along with 16th in birdie-or-better percentage.

Even though +1125 isn't as eye-popping as some of the other outrights I'm taking, we certainly won't be upset, or surprised, if Schauffele cashes it this weekend.

Ludvig Aberg: To Win (+1650)

Ludvig Aberg golf - BMW Championship picks

Can Ludvig Aberg finally come through this season? I'm not sure how many more times I'm going to have to write that, but it's been quite the tumultuous year for the 26-year-old Swede.

Aberg began his 2026 campaign with a withdrawal at The American Express, followed by a missed cut at the Farmers Insurance Open. Since then, however, he's finished T-5 or better in four of his past five tournaments, with the lone exception being a T-21 at Masters.

There have also been a pair of tournaments where he's let Sunday leads slip away, but perhaps he'll get another opportunity this weekend and finally close the deal.

Aberg ranks second in my model this week, and there really aren't many holes to poke in his profile outside of the mental side of protecting a lead on Sunday. Specifically, he ranks second in birdie-or-better percentage and proximity from 200-plus yards, along with fourth in SG: TOT on long and difficult courses, 11th in bogey avoidance, 13th in SG: PUTT and 14th in driving distance.

You get the gist, the man is a stud. Let's hope he puts that on full display this week at the Truist Championship.

Chris Gotterup: To Win (45/1) | Top 20 (+134)

Chris Gotterup, one of the favorites to win the 2025 3M Open - 3M Open 2025 Predictions, Picks & Odds

Two-time TOUR winner in 2026, Chris Gotterup, is someone who should find himself back in contention this weekend.

Gotterup kicked off the season with a win at the Sony Open in Hawaii, then re-entered the winner's circle a couple of weeks later at the WM Phoenix Open.

He stands out this week in particular because of his power off the tee, ranking second in driving distance. Additionally, he ranks fifth in SG: PUTT on similar surfaces, ninth in SG: TOT this season and 25th in bogey avoidance.

If there's a course where Gotterup can fully take advantage of his power, it could most certainly be at Quail Hollow Club.

Nicolai Hojgaard: To Win (50/1) | Top 30 (-126)

Remember when it felt like Nicolai Hojgaard kept finding himself in contention earlier this season? From his first start at the Farmers Insurance Open through THE PLAYERS Championship, Hojgaard posted three finishes of T-27 or better, along with a T-3 and T-6.

A couple of weeks later, he also found himself in second place at the Houston Open. Unfortunately, he followed that up with a missed cut at Augusta and a T-55 at the RBC Heritage, though he did bounce back with a T-23 last weekend at the Cadillac Championship.

So, which version of Hojgaard can we expect this week?

Clearly, I'm bullish on the 25-year-old and what he can accomplish in Charlotte.

He ranks 13th in my model this week, checking a lot of the important boxes for Quail Hollow. Hojgaard ranks fourth in driving distance, 11th in SG: TOT this season, 13th in proximity from 200-plus yards, 16th in birdie-or-better percentage, 17th in SG: APP this season, 22nd in bogey avoidance and 23rd in SG: PUTT.

His game around the greens is a bit less desirable, but just about everywhere else, he inspires confidence. Given his profile and the odds being dealt, I see Hojgaard as a worthy play this week.

Alex Smalley: To Win (70/1) | Top 30 (-112)

How about the run Alex Smalley has been on lately? Toward the end of March, he finished T-21 at the Houston Open, then followed that with a T-14 at the Valero Texas Open. After that, he recorded a runner-up finish alongside Hayden Springer at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, and last week added a T-7 at the Cadillac Championship.

Smalley should already be showing up on people's radar, but when you factor in how he sets up statistically for this course, he becomes really difficult to ignore this week.

The 29-year-old sits 20th in my model, standing out in categories such as scrambling (10th), SG: APP this season (12th), bogey avoidance (16th), SG: Par 4 scoring (16th), SG: TOT this season (19th) and driving distance (28th).

One area of concern is the flat stick. We're going to need Alex Smalley to dial in his putting this week in order to truly compete, but at the very least, he should have what it takes to finish inside the top 30. We've already seen him do that in both of his appearances at Quail Hollow, finishing T-18 in 2023 and T-28 in 2025 while posting an impressive +2.00 True SG mark.

Corey Conners: Top 30 (+110)

Well, I'm sure it'll come as no surprise to anyone who's read more than one of my PGA articles this season to see that I'm fond of Corey Conners this week.

Granted, I'm only putting a wager on his top-30 finish, not for him to win this tournament outright. Why is that?

He ranks 16th in my model, but falls behind in a couple of crucial categories, namely driving distance (56th) and SG: PUTT (54th) on similar surfaces. Outside of that, though, his game stacks up extremely well, and we've seen that translate to finishes of T-8 in 2023, T-13 in 2024 and T-19 last season. He's posting a +1.42 True SG mark at Quail Hollow.

He's got the game to stay competitive, but his lack of dominance in those key areas, while going up against some of the best players in the world, leads me to only betting a top-30 finish on the Canadian.
