Yukon Gambling: Recommended Online Casinos and Sportsbooks, Regulation and News

The Yukon Territory has a unique and limited gambling environment compared to larger provinces. Regulated activities are governed by the Criminal Code of Canada and the territory's Public Lotteries Act, with the Yukon Lottery Commission and the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) overseeing operations.

Due to a small population and geographic isolation, the market remains modest. Regulated options are primarily limited to lotteries and Sport Select betting, which, following federal decriminalization of single-game wagering, is available at retail locations.

Unlike other jurisdictions, Yukon does not host a permanent year-round commercial casino. Instead, it features the historic, seasonal Diamond Tooth Gerties Gambling Hall in Dawson City and occasional short-term charitable casino events.

Moreover, Yukoners can access international online gambling sites that offer viable options.

Overview: Yukon Tribes and Their Role in Territorial Betting

Yukon First Nations do not currently operate major commercial gaming enterprises. They do not use the "Tribal Casino" model common in the United States or the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) model in the prairies.

Instead, the territorial gambling landscape is defined by a centralized government-run model (via the WCLC and Yukon Lottery Commission). Indigenous communities maintain a distinct role through the following:

  • Cultural Sovereignty: Traditional "Hand Games" or "Stick Gambling" are vital cultural fixtures. These games, involving rhythmic drumming and complex guessing sequences, are self-regulated by the 14 Yukon First Nations and are legally recognized as traditional practices rather than commercial gambling.
  • The "Casino" Misnomer: While the "Casino Project" is a major topic in the Yukon, it refers to a massive copper-gold mining project (the Casino Mine) situated on the traditional territories of the Selkirk and Little Salmon/Carmacks First Nations, rather than a gambling facility.

Following national debates over Bill S-241, there is an increasing move toward recognizing the inherent right of First Nations to manage gaming on settlement lands. While no "tribal-run" commercial betting shops currently exist, this remains a key area of potential economic development and intergovernmental negotiation.

Key Yukon Tribes and Their Operations

Because Yukon does not have tribal commercial casinos or licensed tribal gaming operations, this section focuses on Yukon First Nations generally and the extent of gambling‑related cultural practices:

Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in First Nation

Based in Dawson City, this First Nation is a key stakeholder in the region's tourism and resource sectors. While the territory's only casino, Diamond Tooth Gerties, is located on their traditional territory, it is operated by a non-profit association (the KVA) rather than the First Nation.

In 2026, the Nation's primary focus remains on land-use sovereignty and economic reconciliation through joint ventures in housing and sustainable mining.

Kluane First Nation

Located near Haines Junction, Kluane First Nation plays a significant role in the environmental stewardship of the Kluane region. However, they do not operate commercial betting facilities.

The Kluane First Nation are active participants in territorial discussions regarding the "Casino Mine" project. This is a major mineral development often confused with gaming due to its name.

Kwanlin Dün First Nation & Ta'an Kwäch'än Council

Centered in the capital of Whitehorse, these Nations pursue diverse economic portfolios including real estate and hospitality. While they do not host licensed slot halls or commercial casinos, they are the primary hosts of traditional Indigenous gambling competitions.

During events like the 2026 Arctic Winter Games, traditional Hand Games are showcased as vital cultural practices that sit outside the Western regulatory framework of the Yukon Lottery Commission.

Current Yukon Gambling Laws

The Criminal Code of Canada (Federal)

The Criminal Code is the foundational law for all gambling in Canada. Sections 201 through 206 generally prohibit gambling unless it is conducted and managed by a provincial or territorial government.

In 2021, the code was amended (via Bill C-218) to legalize single-game sports betting, allowing territories like the Yukon to offer modernized sports wagering options. It also sets the legal standard for what constitutes an illegal "gaming house."

The Public Lotteries Act (Territorial)

This is the primary territorial statute that authorizes the Yukon government to conduct and manage lottery schemes. It establishes the Yukon Lottery Commission, which oversees the sale of tickets and the distribution of profits into community arts, sports, and recreation.

A key 2026 update to this framework includes more robust provisions for "government gaming establishments," providing a clearer legal basis for venues like Diamond Tooth Gerties.

The Lottery Licensing Act & Regulations (Territorial)

While the Public Lotteries Act handles government-run games, the Lottery Licensing Act governs charitable gaming.

Under this law, the Professional Licensing and Regulatory Affairs branch issues licenses for non-profit organizations to run bingos, raffles, and 50/50 draws. It also regulates the "3-day casino" licenses used for short-term charitable fundraisers.

Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) Rules

Because the Yukon is a member of the WCLC (along with the Prairie provinces and other territories), it follows the WCLC's specific game rules and regulations for products like Lotto 6/49 and Sport Select.

While these are "rules" rather than statutes, they carry the force of law under the interjurisdictional agreements authorized by the Public Lotteries Act.

Consumer Protection Act (Territorial)

In the Yukon, gambling is also viewed through the lens of consumer service. The Consumer Protection Act applies to the fairness of transactions and the advertising of gambling services within the territory.

This act ensures that operators, whether the government or licensed charitable groups, provide transparent information regarding odds and prize payouts.

Latest Yukon Legislative Updates

Implementation of the GameSense Social Responsibility Program

In late 2025 and early 2026, the Yukon Lottery Commission officially launched GameSense® as its flagship responsible gambling initiative. This policy update requires all licensed lottery retailers in the territory to provide accessible information on how games work, the odds of winning, and resources for support.

Importantly, this aligns the Yukon with national standards for player protection and social responsibility. It also shifts the focus from mere revenue generation to harm reduction.

Modernization of Next-Day Prize Payouts

A major operational update finalized in the 2025-26 fiscal year changed the payout structure for large winners in Whitehorse. Previously, winning tickets over $1,000 had to be mailed to the WCLC headquarters in Winnipeg, causing significant delays.

Under the new policy, winners can now receive next-day payouts of up to $1,000,000 directly in Whitehorse. This reduces the risk of lost tickets and improves the consumer experience for local players.

Federal Bill S-211: National Framework on Sports Betting Advertising

As of 2026, the Yukon is preparing for the implementation of Bill S-211, a federal act that mandates the creation of a national framework to regulate sports betting advertising.

While sports betting (Sport Select) is legal in the Yukon, this new framework will restrict how these services are marketed, particularly during broadcasts where minors are present.

This federal shift overrides previous territorial flexibility regarding advertising and sets a standardized "public health" approach across all territories.

Travel Assistance Funding Program Adjustments

The Yukon Lottery Commission recently doubled the Travel Assistance Funding Program from $200 to $400 per participant.

While this is a fiscal policy rather than a "law," it is a direct result of the Commission's mandate under the Public Lotteries Act to reinvest gambling profits into the community.

This update is designed to offset the rising costs of travel for Yukon athletes and artists participating in outside competitions and showcases.

Yukon Land‑Based Sports Betting

Status: Legal

Land-based sports betting is legal in the Yukon but operates through a centralized retail model. Residents can place wagers via Sport Select, a product managed by the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) and the Yukon Lottery Commission.

Following the 2021 federal decriminalization of single-event wagering, Sport Select now allows for single-game bets alongside traditional parlays and pools. These bets must be placed in person at one of the 37 authorized lottery retail outlets (such as gas stations or convenience stores) across the territory.

While the WCLC provides a digital platform to "build your bet" and generate a QR code, the Yukon does not yet offer a fully regulated online sportsbook where bets can be finalized remotely.

Consequently, many residents continue to use offshore online sportsbooks. These are not licensed by Yukon authorities but are widely accessible. To participate in legal territorial sports betting, patrons must be 19 years or older.

As with most casual gambling in Canada, winnings from Sport Select are not subject to income tax.

List of Land‑Based Sports Betting Operations in Yukon

Sport Select (Retail Network)

Operator: Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) & Yukon Lottery Commission

Sport Select is the only legally sanctioned land-based sports betting product in the Yukon. It is operated by the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) in partnership with Lotteries Yukon.

In 2026, the platform allows for single-game betting, point spreads, and prop bets on major leagues like the NHL, NFL, and NBA. While players can use a mobile app to "build their ticket," the transaction is only legalized once the physical ticket is printed and paid for at a retail terminal.

Yukon Online Sports Betting

Status: Not Licensed or Regulated

Online sports betting in the Yukon is not licensed or regulated by the territorial government. Unlike Ontario, which launched a regulated iGaming market, the Yukon does not have a territorial licensing regime for private Canada online sportsbooks

Consequently, a dedicated, Yukon-licensed online sportsbook platform does not currently exist. That said, Yukon players can access international online sportsbooks for their sports betting needs.

List of Online Sports Betting Operations in Yukon

NorthStar Bets

Operator: NorthStar Gaming Holdings Inc.

NorthStar Bets is a premier, Canadian-owned and operated sportsbook that has gained significant traction across the country by 2026. While it originally launched as an Ontario-exclusive platform (regulated by iGaming Ontario), it has since expanded its reach to the rest of Canada, including the Yukon, under a license from the Kahnawake Gaming Commission.

This "national" version of the site is tailored specifically for Canadian sports fans, featuring deep integration with Canadian media and a heavy focus on NHL and CFL markets. For Yukon residents, NorthStar Bets offers a high-end interface, competitive odds, and "Sports Insights" that provide expert analysis on major North American leagues.

Ozoon Sportsbook

Operator: Rocketship Ventures

Ozoon is the brand-new identity for what was formerly Bodog, one of the most famous names in the Canadian offshore gambling scene. In early 2026, the platform underwent a major rebrand to pivot toward a broader "digital entertainment" identity while maintaining its robust sportsbook, poker room, and casino.

For Yukoners, Ozoon remains a popular choice because it has historically catered to the Canadian market for over two decades. It is known for its user-friendly interface, early lines on niche sports, and its acceptance of various cryptocurrencies for deposits and withdrawals. This is often a preferred method for residents in remote northern regions.

Offshore Betting Sites for Yukon Residents

Betting sites based offshore and accessible to Yukon can serve as alternative venues for their players seeking to place online wagers. Even though these sites are not locally licensed, they all have long track records of fairness and reliability. They also offer college sports betting, on top of larger bonuses and better odds. Players looking for value might find these international sportsbooks to be good options for them.

Yukon Land‑Based Casino Gambling

Status: Legal

Land-based casino gambling is legal and regulated in the Yukon, though it remains small-scale and heritage-focused. The territory's only permanent venue is Diamond Tooth Gerties Gambling Hall in Dawson City.

As Canada's oldest casino, it operates under a unique model where it is run by the non-profit Klondike Visitors Association (KVA), with all proceeds reinvested into local tourism and community heritage.

While primarily a seasonal summer attraction (May to September) featuring live vaudeville shows, in 2026 it continues to offer limited "Winter Openings" on weekends (Friday/Saturday) from late January through April.

Outside of this permanent facility, land-based gaming is limited to short-term 3-day charitable casino licenses issued by the Yukon government to non-profit organizations for specific fundraising events.

The facility offers a full gaming floor featuring blackjack, roulette, poker, and over 60 slot machines. It is famous for its "three-show" nightly vaudeville and can-can performances during the summer peak (May-September).

Moreover, the venue currently operates on a weekend-only winter schedule (Fridays and Saturdays, 7:00 PM – 1:00 AM) through April 18, 2026.

Yukon Poker

Status: Legal

Land-based poker is legal and regulated in the Yukon, centered primarily at Diamond Tooth Gerties Gambling Hall in Dawson City. As of 2026, Gerties remains the only venue with a dedicated, permanent poker room, typically offering No-Limit Texas Hold'em and Omaha Hi cash games on a rotating weekly schedule.

While it does not host major international poker tours, the venue is known for its "Tournament Tuesdays" and local series during the summer months. Outside of Dawson City, the poker scene consists of charitable poker tournaments licensed by the Yukon government.

These are often hosted in Whitehorse by community groups or as part of larger festivals like the Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous, where high-stakes "pop-up" tournaments are a major local tradition.

List of Land‑Based Poker Operations in Yukon

Diamond Tooth Gerties Poker Room

Operator: Klondike Visitors Association (KVA)

Located in Dawson City, Diamond Tooth Gerties is the only permanent venue in the Yukon where you can find live cash games and recurring tournaments.

The poker room usually operates on its Winter Schedule during the latter parts of the year's first quarter. It offers live games every Friday and Saturday night from 7:00 PM to 1:00 AM.

Moreover, the room primarily spreads $1/$2 No-Limit Texas Hold'em, though Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) is often available upon request if enough players are present.

During the peak summer season (starting May 8, 2026), the room expands to daily operations and hosts its signature "Tournament Tuesdays."

Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous Poker Tournament

Operator: Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous Society

As part of the annual Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous festival held in Whitehorse, a major charitable poker tournament is organized under a territorial 3-day casino license.

The 2026 tournament took place in mid-February at a central Whitehorse venue (typically the Westmark Whitehorse or the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre). These events operate as "pop-up" poker rooms with professional dealers and standardized TDA (Poker Tournament Directors Association) rules.

The proceeds from these tournaments are used to fund the festival's community events throughout the year.

Tagish Poker Run & Community Events

Operator: Tagish Community Centre

Unique to the North, "Poker Runs" are a common hybrid of recreation and gambling. The Tagish Poker Run, held on March 7, 2026 (under License #2026-015), is a primary example.

Participants travel to various checkpoints via snowmobile or vehicle to collect playing cards, with the best hand winning at the final destination.

While not a traditional "poker room," these are legally licensed gaming events where hundreds of residents wager on poker outcomes in a social, outdoor setting.

Yukon Online Poker

Status: Not Licensed or Regulated

Online poker in the Yukon is not licensed or regulated by territorial authorities. There is no local regulatory body that issues licenses to online poker operators, nor is there a government-run poker site like those found in British Columbia (PlayNow) or Ontario (WSOP.ca).

However, Yukoners may legally access major international poker platforms that accept Canadian players.

List of Online Poker Operations in Yukon

Yukon does not have locally-run online poker operations.

Other Online Poker Options for Yukon Residents

Offshore Online Poker Sites for Yukon Residents

Online poker sites based offshore that accept Canadian players serve as an alternative for Yukon players seeking online poker games. Because these operators maintain headquarters outside Canada, they inhabit a legal 'grey zone.' The main advantage of playing offshore is that these online poker sites have a larger pool of players. Therefore, players will get more action at the tables and bigger tournaments. So even though offshore poker sites might not be regulated locally, they have long track records of honesty, bigger tournaments and table offerings and therefore offer a better experience than local sites for most players.

Yukon Land‑Based Horse Betting

Status: Not Licensed or Regulated

Land-based horse race betting is not conducted in the Yukon due to the absence of licensed racetracks or pari-mutuel betting theaters.

Unlike provinces with active equestrian industries, the Yukon's small population and northern climate have precluded the development of a local racing circuit. Consequently, there are no territorial licenses issued for land-based horse wagering.

While Section 204 of the Criminal Code of Canada allows for pari-mutuel betting under the supervision of the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency (CPMA), this federal framework has no active physical footprint in the territory.

Residents interested in horse racing typically look to offshore online platforms or travel to provinces like Alberta or British Columbia to visit live tracks.

List of Land-Based Horse Betting Operations in Yukon

As mentioned above, Yukon does not have locally-run land-based horse betting operations.

Yukon Online Horse Betting

Status: Not Licensed or Regulated

Yukon does not license or regulate online horse betting at the territorial level. However, it is federally regulated under the Criminal Code of Canada.

Because there are no physical tracks or teletheatres in the Yukon, residents cannot place pari-mutuel bets in person. Legally, Yukoners can use HPIbet, which is the primary Canadian-regulated platform that operates under the supervision of the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency (CPMA).

This allows residents to legally wager on hundreds of tracks globally within a regulated Canadian framework. Alternatively, many Yukoners use offshore sportsbooks that offer fixed-odds horse racing markets.

List of Online Horse Betting Operations in Yukon

HPIbet

Operator: Woodbine Entertainment Group

HPIbet is the "gold standard" for legal horse racing in Canada and is fully accessible to Yukon residents. It is a government-sanctioned pari-mutuel platform that operates under the supervision of the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency (CPMA).

This operation allows Yukoners to join the global betting pools for over 450 tracks worldwide, including major Canadian venues like Woodbine and Mohawk. Because it is a regulated Canadian entity, it provides the most secure environment for banking (via Interac). It also ensures that a portion of every bet supports the Canadian horse racing industry.

Other Online Horse Betting Options for Yukon Residents

Offshore Online Horse Betting for Yukon Residents

Online horse betting based offshore that accept Canadian players serve as an alternative for Yukon players seeking online gambling. Even though these sites are not locally licensed, they all have long track records of fairness and reliability. They often offer larger bonuses and better odds so players looking for value might find these international racebooks to be good options for them.

Yukon Lotteries

Status: Legal

Lotteries represent a central component of Yukon gaming. The YLC manages all operations in partnership with the WCLC.

Residents have access to national draws like Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49, and Daily Grand, as well as regional instant-win scratch tickets. A significant 2026 update to player convenience now allows the Lotto Spot! mobile app to process ticket purchases directly.

Prizes up to $1,000,000 are eligible for next-day payout at the Whitehorse prize office. This eliminates the historic requirement to mail winning tickets to out-of-territory offices.

Beyond entertainment, the lottery operates as a vital social engine for the territory. Lottery proceeds drive community growth, with 100% of the Yukon's share going directly back into local programs.

Under the current Partnership Memorandum of Understanding, these funds specifically bolster the Arts Operating Fund, Travel Assistance Funding (which recently doubled to $400 per participant), and major community infrastructure through the Projects Fund.

These support everything from local gymnastics equipment to the 2026 World Broomball Tournament in Whitehorse.

List of Yukon Lottery Platforms

Lotto Spot! Mobile App (Digital Platform)

Operator: Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC)

The Lotto Spot! app is the primary digital gateway for Yukoners. It has evolved from a simple "ticket checker" into a full transactional platform.

Residents can now build and purchase tickets for major national and regional draws (Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49, Daily Grand, Western Max, and Western 649) directly on their smartphones using Visa, Mastercard, or Apple Pay.

A key feature updated in 2025-2026 is the "Add to Wallet" function, allowing players to store digital winning tickets in their phone's native wallet for seamless retail redemption.

Whitehorse Prize Payout Office (High-Value Platform)

Operator: Yukon Lottery Commission / Lotteries Yukon

A significant operational platform for Yukon players in 2026 is the Whitehorse Prize Office located at 2071 Second Avenue. In a major move toward territorial autonomy, this office now facilitates next-day payouts for prizes up to $1,000,000.

Historically, winners had to mail tickets to Winnipeg; the local office now acts as a high-value verification hub. This provides Yukon winners with immediate local service and reducing the security risks associated with mailing physical tickets.
