We're back after a little break!

I took some time away this week to spend with family and friends, but I'm ready to attack another weekend of football.

Fortunately, we have some excellent Premier League matchups on today's slate.

There are two games that really stand out to me, including one where I think the underdog could cause some serious problems.

Let's get into the plays!

Manchester City vs. Brighton

This should be one of the most entertaining matches on today's Premier League slate.

Interestingly, these two clubs just faced each other during the week in the EFL Cup.

That match finished 2-2, and although both managers rotated their squads, I was once again impressed with Brighton's attack.

The Seagulls looked dangerous on the road and created plenty of problems for Manchester City.

Now, they return to Manchester just a few days later.

However, this time both teams are expected to have their strongest lineups available.

And I think we're in for a real treat.

One trend that immediately caught my attention was the recent head-to-head history.

Both Teams To Score has cashed in five consecutive meetings between these clubs.

More importantly, Brighton have enjoyed plenty of success against City since Fabian Hürzeler took over.

In fact, Hürzeler has yet to lose against Manchester City since becoming Brighton's manager.

That's an impressive record against one of England's biggest clubs.

Of course, I understand why some people might be down on Brighton following their recent match against Liverpool.

However, I actually thought the Seagulls were the better team for large portions of that game.

They were unfortunate to concede an early own goal, which completely changed the match.

Additionally, I think fatigue played a significant role in their second-half performance.

Brighton had traveled back from the Czech Republic just a few days earlier, and those tired legs eventually caught up with them.

However, I don't expect that to be as much of an issue today.

Hürzeler rotated his squad during the midweek cup match, giving several important players an opportunity to recover.

That should leave Brighton in a much better position physically heading into this matchup.

Meanwhile, there are some concerning underlying numbers surrounding Manchester City.

City have been the Premier League's biggest overperformers when comparing their actual points to expected points this season.

That suggests their results have been better than their overall performances would typically warrant.

More importantly, I still have concerns about their defensive play.

The goalkeeping hasn't been convincing, while Marc Guéhi has struggled at times along the back line.

Those are areas Brighton have the attacking quality to exploit.

The Seagulls have shown they can create chances against quality opposition, and I expect that to continue today.

Of course, Manchester City will have plenty of opportunities themselves.

However, I don't think Brighton should be counted out of this matchup.

They've already shown they can compete with City, and Hürzeler's record against them speaks for itself.

Ultimately, I expect both teams to create chances and find the back of the net.

However, rather than taking Brighton outright, I'm giving myself some protection with the double chance.

That means we cash if Brighton win or the match finishes in a draw, provided both teams score.

At +130, I think we're getting excellent value on a Brighton side that has consistently given City problems.

Give me the Seagulls to take at least a point in Manchester!

Aston Villa vs. Fulham

Manzambi and Villa look to get back to their winnings ways at home against Fulham.

This is one of the more interesting lines I've seen on today's Premier League slate.

Aston Villa are sitting around even money on the moneyline, which immediately caught my attention.

Honestly, my first instinct was to back the hosts outright.

However, I wanted to dig into the underlying numbers before making a final decision.

And while I still really like Villa in this matchup, I think there's a better way to attack it.

First, let's talk about the form Aston Villa have been in recently.

The hosts have been playing some excellent football, especially in the Premier League.

Yes, they suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat during the week.

However, that felt like a match Unai Emery was willing to sacrifice to protect his squad.

Villa rotated heavily, with both Jackson and Manzambi not even dressing for the game.

To me, that suggests Emery is prioritizing the Premier League and Champions League at this stage of the season.

And honestly, I can't blame him.

Villa have been outstanding in front of their home supporters.

They've won five consecutive home meetings against Fulham and haven't lost in their last four Premier League matches.

Additionally, they've scored at least twice in four straight home games.

That's exactly the type of production I want when targeting a team total.

Villa Park has become a difficult place for visiting clubs, and I expect another strong performance from the hosts today.

However, there's one thing that makes this matchup a little more interesting than the recent form suggests.

Fulham's underlying numbers have actually been very impressive this season.

In fact, the visitors rank ahead of Aston Villa in expected goals, expected goals against, and big chances created.

That's something I certainly didn't expect when I started researching this match.

Additionally, Fulham rank inside the Premier League's top 10 in both xG and xGA.

Those numbers suggest this is a much better team than some people might realize.

More importantly, Fulham have been creating quality chances and should be capable of troubling Villa defensively.

That's ultimately what pushed me away from backing the hosts on the moneyline.

I wouldn't be surprised if Fulham find the back of the net today.

However, I still think Aston Villa have the attacking quality to control this matchup.

The hosts should be well-rested after Emery's heavy rotation during the week.

Meanwhile, their recent home scoring form gives me plenty of confidence in their ability to create opportunities.

I also think Villa understand the importance of continuing their strong Premier League run.

With Fulham capable of contributing offensively, the hosts may need multiple goals to secure all three points.

That's why I prefer the team total.

Rather than worrying about whether Villa win, I'm simply backing them to score at least twice.

They've accomplished that in four consecutive home matches, and I like their chances of doing it again.

Ultimately, I expect an entertaining game with opportunities on both ends.

However, Villa's attacking quality, home advantage, and additional rest should give them the edge.

At -120, I think we're getting a very playable number.

Give me Aston Villa to continue their impressive scoring form at Villa Park!
